-----------------------

As the title suggests, I picked up some new plastic the other day which if you aren't familiar with lingo in Disc Golf, that means I bought some new discs. I had been out playing a round with my buddy last week when somehow I managed to lose a disc somewhere between the first hole and the 18th hole. I couldn't remember the last time I had the disc, so going back to look for it was a fools errand.

Many times people put their name and number on the disc in case someone else finds it they can contact you and hopefully get it back to you. Most people at least try. Some don't and they just bag the disc to use themselves. Since I have yet to receive a call or text, I am guessing the latter is what happened to my blue Innova Sidewinder that I lost.

It sucks too because I really liked that disc and I had been using it as my main driver for quite a while now. My buddy said he has been throwing a lot of [Discmania](https://www.discmania.net/) brand discs lately, so I thought I would check them out. I loaded up the webpage for my preferred reseller [1010discs](https://1010discs.com/) and started looking for a replacement.

-------------------

I tried to find discs that had similar numbers to those on my old Sidewinder. When I say numbers, I mean the four ratings that each disc has. I've talked about these numbers in a post before, but let me cover them again quickly.

Speed is from 1 to 14 and indicates how fast the disc can travel. Arm strength plays a big part in this number.

Glide is from 1 to 7 and it indicates how much the disc will stay aloft.

Turn is a number from -5 to +1 and it indicates the discs tendency to curve either left or right depending on how you through (left handed or right handed/forehand or backhand).

Finally, Fade is a number from 0 to 5 and indicates how the disc will curve at the end of its flight.

As you can imagine, there are a variety of different combinations these numbers can appear in to directly influence the flight of your disc. In addition to that, there are different types of plastic that each disc is made of. The same disc made of different plastic materials will fly quite different even though the numbers might be the same.

I played a round with my buddy last night and I decided to get to the course a little earlier than our agreed time so I could throw these new discs a couple of times to see what they would do. It generally takes a little bit to break new discs in.

Sadly, my game was a bit off yesterday for some reason. I threw a 15 over par which was a far cry from the four over par I threw on the same course just a week ago. It happens, but I don't feel like it gave me a good feel for how these discs are going to work for me. That last disc in the photos above I specifically bought for @mrsbozz.

The numbers for that disc are supposed to fit really well with her ability right now. As she gets better, she will hopefully graduate up to some of the other discs that are in my bag.

The funny thing about disc golf, it's kind of like fishing. Even a bad day out on the course is still better than no day out on the course!
