I wanted to put together some of the tips and tricks I've learned during my Hive journey and that way contribute back to the community. Hopefully, some of these will spice up your posts and make them look even better! First, let's take a look at [Canva](https://www.canva.com).


### Canva Safety Lines

Canva is a free and easy-to-use design tool that I use mostly for making my thumbnail images.

If you are planning on publishing your Hive post also on a different platform using the same thumbnail image you should consider using Canva safety lines. 

When I make a thumbnail image for my Hive post I choose the blog banner from the Create a design dropdown menu.

This is 2240 pixels wide and 1260 pixels high. If you decide to use the whole canvas, it will be fully visible on Hive but not necessarily on other platforms. It might be cropped to 1920 x 1080 size and the information close to borders might not be visible. 

Fortunately, Canva has these safety lines to help you to compose your picture.

You can see in the picture above that if I'd move the Splinterlands logo across the pink lines it would be cropped out of 1920 x 1080 area. Therefore, it wouldn't be visible on some platforms. The safety lines appear automatically when you move an object close to borders. 

Also, there are lines to help you center your image or compose the images in relation to each other.

### Background Remover

The background of a picture can sometimes make an object jump out too much and you might want it to look more embedded. If you are not familiar with **Photoshop** or **Gimp** for example, probably the easiest and fastest way is to use a browser-based background remover.

Just click upload image on the front page, choose the original picture and it's done. Now you can download the picture with transparent background but I would suggest clicking edit and zooming in to make sure it removed everything.

Depending on the picture, BG remover can sometimes leave small parts of the background visible. You can manually erase them or restore parts of the object back.

* Tip: For scaling down pictures I've found the basic **Windows Photos** to be the fastest and most convenient one. I used to do it with **Paint** but the image will lose the transparency so that's not an option. Also, note that scaling up from the original size will make it look blurry.

### Image Hosting

When using some platforms on Hive you might need to upload an image to an image-hosting site and then copy and add the link back to your posting. Some of these are [Listnerds](https://listnerds.com/) and [Dreemport](https://dreemport.com/) for example. 

* Posting on Dreemport requires a direct link to add your thumbnail image. For that, I've been using [PostImage](https://postimg.cc/Hcy1r2dT/82c3ad3a) 
* With Listnerds I've used [imgbb](https://imgbb.com) to get the **HTML Full linked** code

### Snippets

I'm usually using **Peakd** or **LeoFinance** fronts to write and/or edit my articles. PeakD has this handy Frequently Used Snippets folder where you can save your favorite snippets and they are always ready for you to copy/paste them onto your writings. 

Here are my most used snippets: 

**Image left/right:**

To place your image on the left or right side just copy the address in the middle of the code and replace "right" with "left" if you want it on that side. If you want to add text, click enter a couple of times so bold, italic, etc. will be visible.

**Justify** 

This piece of code will make your text more pleasant to read.

### Dividers

If you want to give your reader a bit of a break or want to separate two sections or just want to add a cool visual element, you can use **dividers**.

You can make one yourself or find them on the [Stock Images](https://peakd.com/c/hive-118554/created) community for example. Just make sure that you have the permission of its creator to use it.

### Grammarly 

If your native language isn't English there is a little tool called **Grammarly** to help you to correct small mistakes. Once installed, it will work constantly in the background as you are writing. Sometimes Grammarly corrects mis-spellings on the fly, other times it draws a red line under a word or phrase.

* It's really great when you feel inspired, have that flow going on, and just want to keep writing. It's oddly satisfying to just click those red lines afterward! However, Grammarly might occasionally miss some words so you still have to check it through
* You can add words that Grammarly doesn't recognize to your personal dictionary
* There's a premium version of Grammarly but the free one has been more than enough for me

I'm using the **Grammarly** browser extension which works on several platforms. There's also a **desktop** version available if you like to write offline. ### Tags

This is how I understand the correct way of using tags so your post will find the right readers. OGs can correct me if I left something out.

So, if I was to make a technical analysis post about **Terra Luna** on LeoFinance, the first 5 tags would probably be something like these:

In those remaining 5 slots I'd put my favorite 2nd layer project tags so I might get rewarded with their tokens. Like this:
