Another lovely life lesson that my dearest father passed on to me, was enveloped within the short story of his very first formal wine tasting alongside a few very acclaimed wine connoisseurs .
As the story goes, my father who loves his occasional wine gets invited to attend a very formal wine tasting, where he would be acting as a representative for the company that he was working for at that stage, also attending were various other representatives of market related companies from all over the world.
Despite my fathers fondness of wine, the reason why he was chosen by his company to attend this function was in fact based on his friendly and approachable social nature, as well as his reasonably well developed multilingual skills.
Given that my fathers love for wine was merely based on the appreciation of the dinner table wine, it is almost needless to say that my father almost immediately started learning more about wines and their culture. This attempt at self education later on formed the foundations of numerous conversations at the wine tasting event, and more than that it also fueled his love for this fermented beverage, as well as feed his desire for expanded knowledge on this topic.
**NOW** just as any other eager student might have, my fathers head was filled to the brim with inquisitive questions and who better to ask than the acclaimed wine connoisseurs attending the party.
My very excited father simply could not wait, but as most of us know, sometimes what we want in life and what we get are two completely different things. As it turned out my Fathers extremely inviting personality managed to supply him with a constant flow of conversationalists, but alas, no window of opportunity to meet up with one of the wine connoisseurs.
It was only much later in the evening, when the event became more informal. The guests were deep into the party, and more s deeper into the expanse and diverse array of wine that was freely placed at their disposal. ~ This included my dad, whos deflated eagerness and enthusiasm, was now consoled by yet another glass of dry red. Then as fate would have it, low and behold, one of the connoisseurs walk up to him and they quickly fall into deep conversation, despite his slightly impaired rational and logical brain functions things were going well, (And it was not as if was indulging in copious amounts of wine, it was just that he had never been a big drinker, thus he quickly got saturated with the wine whilst waiting for a moment to meet one of the wine fundies), up until the point where he realized that his re-call memory has gone on strike, just as he was about to start asking all the questions that he had been pining to the entire evening, because that was exactly where he hit a blank.
### Nothing came to mind
## Absolutely nothing!
Standing there for a while at a loss for words, my father eventually managed to scrape the following question together
"You know so much about wine, by what factors would you measure if a wine is a good wine?"
The equally inebriated connoisseur simply answered: "The, only way to truly know if the wine you are drinking is indeed a good wine, is to taste it, if you enjoy it, then it is a good wine ~ to you"
# The lesson here?
## We ever so often in life over-complicate things unnecessarily.
There does not always need to be a set staff of measurement by which we measure the value of things, sometimes we can just enjoy things in a simplistic manner and measure its value by the quality of our own enjoyment.
The best rated wine, determend by the most experienced wine connoisseurs, does not neccesaraly mean that it will be the best tasting wine to you.
