Gardening Update

HI Friends,

 

I planted some garlic a while back in a couple of spots and the garlic seems to have been doing well.  Not know what I am really doing, I decided it was time to check and see if the garlic was ready for harvest so I dug a couple of the garlic shoots up to check…

No garlic cloves yet!  Bummer!  I didn’t even see small bulbs so hopefully something will happen eventually.



On a bright note, my jalapeno plant that has been dormant all winter has started to get some new sprouts on it!  I am hopeful I can get a bunch of jalapenos off it this year!

Wish I had a yard I would plant all kinds of vegetables and fruit. Nothing better than the fruit and vegetables you pick from your own garden. Hopefully your garlic will come along. You learn as you go.

Garlic is one that took me a while to fathom and I'm still not sure I've got the process. It seems you plant the clove in autumn and it sprouts, then dies back for winter. Then when it comes back in spring it will start to expand and separate into cloves. It takes almost a year to be ready for harvest as a complete bulb (so summertime). You can, of course, eat it at any stage, so what you pulled up can be eaten still. Just prep it greens and all.

Thank you for the tip. I planted it about 4-5 months ago in winter so it seems like I might need to wait until next summer to get a harvest? I may pull another shoot at the end of summer to see what is going on down there!
