Interest Rates and Housing

Hi Friends,

With rising interest rates, fewer buyers will qualify for home loans.  Refinances will also slow down, so people will not have the ability to get large sums of cash as easily and cheaply as they have in the past.  That could cause major asset purchases to go down, such as for automobiles.  Add in inflation and we are at a point where the economy could take a turn for the worse.

A 30 year home loan interest rate is now over 4.5% - bad news for borrowers.  We shall see how this plays out this year, but home purchases could slow down very soon.

What are your thoughts on rising interest rates and the housing market?

👍🏻 Higher interest rates are always a threat to economy. Even more this time since the Fed doesn’t mainly rise interest because of a strong economy but because of the high inflation. 😏

Housing prices go down when interest rates are high in a normal economy, however they both have gone up in my country.
