Julian Newman has been one of the most controversial high school basketball players I have ever seen.  Now that we have the Internet some of these kids can get a ton of exposure on YouTube before they get to the college level.   Julian has been playing varsity since he was around 11 years old which is pretty weird in some respects because most states won't allow that.  He goes to a small religious school in Florida where his dad is the coach.   

It left everyone asking if the kid was good or just over promoted by his pops.   Then there was the question of if the competition he is playing is legit or just watered down.   People also says he shoots from his chest and that will never work against better defenders.

He recently played in a summer league with NBA guys and other legit ballers in Miami and showed once again he is tuff.  He could get enough separation to get his shot off and score.  What is more impressive is he is only about 5'7" and going into his junior year in high school.  That would be super intimidating to play against grown men when you are 16 and not totally choke.   

## No Offers
Evidently he hasn't received any D1 or D2 offers to play in college yet but he is one of the most well known high school basketball players and the most controversial.  He has two more years of college ball to impress some coaches.

People are trying to access these kids potential so early and in some respects people have a legitimate concern that he isn't going to get much taller if any.   I know how that feels when you wish you could just be a couple more inches taller.   

## What Impresses Me About Him
Even though he has the height disadvantage he is still able to get separation and he is a really good shot.  He has put up a high volume of shots in his life and he is fairly efficient.  When he is on he is pretty deadly and it is best to respect him.  

He has really good handles as well and some say he over dribbles and goes nowhere and I get what they are saying with that but when he wants to get to the hoop he seems to be able to get that extra step.

## Why Do People Talk Smack?
Sometimes he will sort of cop a cocky attitude against other players and people don't like that because he is sort of bringing it on.  That coupled with all the promotion from his dad and the fact he goes to that small school where his dad coaches he isn't very popular in the comment sections.  

I think overtime he will figure that part out and people will start respecting his game more.   I think he will end up going to a small D1 school that wants to get the publicity.  The cameras will still follow this kid in college I believe because he is so controversial.  

### In the end he is a kid and I hope he has a long career playing basketball and can take it as far as possible without injury.
