Preparing the new room for my son. PART I

New wallpaper in the bedroom, a #homesolution to repair the waterdamage that occurred there through the wall from the bathroom and shower.

The new community #homesolutions is the community for today. I will take you with me on this redecorate 4 day weekend.

It’s a chore ( read massive home improvement task ) that was coming. The fact that we had water damage on the wall in the corner of the bedroom upstairs needed to be tackled. The leakage was from the bathroom and the wall next to it is the bedroom. So we started , and removed damaged drywall, the old pipes and the faucet. We went to throw away old stuff. We went to the municipal garbage drop off and cleared out the full stuffed car. I have to say it’s always a good feeling to throw things in those huge containers. And the feeling to clean out the house is also nice.
Nesseccary and nice.

We planned it these days because we have 4 days off. It’s Ascension Day weekend in the Netherlands. That day ( and for us the attached free weekend ) marks the time when Jesus ascended to heaven for the final time following his crucifixion and resurrection.
It is always the 40th day of Easter and is always on a Thursday. So we have , if you take Friday off , a four day weekend,
and that’s exactly what we did. Plus we planned the days to repairs , throw away , paint, peel off and wallpaper the rooms. So not free, free but extremely satisfying.
Oh and we did some garden work aswell.
But let me take you along during this preparation and demo day.

I went to wallpaper world and we gave D carte blanche to choose something for his room. The last time we did something was the wallpaper that we did for the baby rooms. Very neutral but after 10 years this was a perfect moment to change scenery and make it into a teenager room.

This is the place to be, also When you need accessoires for the job they have everything.

The store has so much that choosing is a task. They had everything we need and we spend an hour just to look at the designs , patterns and the colors they have. But we did it.

You can look through the books at a table and there is also a possibility to take the wallpaper books home and look at home in the room, with the furniture you have or just to talk to the family about it an make a decision. We did look in the shop and took two books home.

Even VERSACE is a possibility, expensive I can tell you.

I saw many I liked, but I was walking silent through the store , behind a eleven year old with an idea. An teenager with a mission. Like his mum : He knows what he wants. He has a vision and goes with it.

This was the designs he wanted. Graffiti and arty;ike wallpaper. The fact that multicolor is his idea, made us say they could go on two walls not four. Its a bedroom and to much color is maybe a bit much.

While we looked at the graffiti designs , dad bought the glue, the primer and all the other things we needed. Teamwork and good because that saved some time we needed because we have to be done by Sunday.

We choose instant glue and ready to go stuff, it’s so much easier than 10, years ago. I hope the work will be fast aswell, and that soon the room is ready to use again aswell. I love renovating but the dust and the switching with furniture while living in the space that’s being renovated well, my ocd can’t handle weeks of demo and repairs I know that now. And the room must also be clean again soon and ready to use for homework and school sleep.

This is the one he choose and is so happy with.

But look at all these designs and possible wall colors, I was like a kid in the home deco candy store.

I love the stone walls, it looks so good and so real.
And with every interior there is a wallpaper that goes so good with it.

Also the books we brought home had to be returned at the end of the day. That’s when we placed the order and took all the things home.

So we brought the rolls wallpaper home.

Now I will rent a steamer to get the old stuff of the wall first, and I have to get the room empty.
Well totally empty is not possible so I have to try to move things around and together with the two youngest sons to look through all the teddy bears, spinners, Lego, books and board games, to see what has to go.
I will donate and give it away.
I won’t throw it in the garbage,
I love it to have a second life, like I do when I go to thrift stores and buy second hand.

This weekend I will do part II of the renovating and the repairs.
For now I will jump in the shower and go to bed.
This blog is done in parts during today,
Friday the 19th, on to Sunday evening and the deadline for it to be finished. From me, a tried mum and a happy boy excited for his new room.

OMG, that wallpaper looks spectacular, I loved it, I think my teenage self would have been happy with something like that. I also loved the shop you went to, with so many options I don't know how they chose so quickly, I would have taken days, hahahaha.

I hope you don't find the work so hard and that you can complete it in the days you have free.

It's nice to have you here sharing this beautiful project for your teenage son's room.  

It's quite annoying when that leak damages our walls, it's quite a job to recover them.  

On the bright side, he will now have a room like new. The wallpaper you chose looks great, although the brick ones are also very nice. 

That store looks great, very nice and lots of things to offer, it's good that they make it easy for you to take the samples home to see which model matches the furniture at home. 

I think it's excellent that the things that you don't use anymore and that are still useful can be donated and have a new opportunity for another child. 

I hope that this weekend will be enough to finish the decoration, that it will be very nice and that your son will be satisfied and happy.

I love the wallpaper your son chose. And there is definitely a big task ahead, but I see you are very well organized and that's great.
At home my kids room has been redecorated 3 times!!!! And I think they are overdue for a remodel already. But we will wait a little longer hahaha.
