Isabela era una joven y hermosa gitana, llena de alegría y canto, gustaba de bailar y cantar sus canciones llenas de ritmo y picardía; aunque estaban en plena actualidad, el progreso, ni los grandes inventos de la civilización los había hecho desistir de sus tradiciones, aunque muchos se burlaran de ellas; pero esto a Isabela y a su gran clan familiar pocos les importaba. Trataban de interactuar con la sociedad, trabajando en lo que podían y preparándose en lo que se les daba, a pesar de que a sus mujeres no se les permitía estudiar más allá de la escuela básica, pues su deber principal era preparase para ser amas de casa, fieles y castas esposas para otro gitano.
Lo único que se les permitía a las mujeres era decir la suerte, cantar y bailar donde se los permitieran..., Isabela, se había preparado desde muy niña en eso del canto y ya era toda una profesional, estaba esperando su oportunidad. En eso conoció a un joven muy guapo, que desde que lo vio, sus ojos no tuvieron más para donde mirar, tenía unos bellos hoyuelos en sus mejillas, unos ojos grandes negros profundos, abundante cabello negro y una figura envidiable; pero había un detalle su amado era un [Gorger](https://aerisdigital.es/cocina/que-es-un-gorger-segun-los-gitanos/) y su familia no lo iba a aceptar, ella lo sabía. Aquel intrépido personaje se llamaba Juan, ya había tenido la osadía de presentársele.
Pero esto a Isabela le había parecido muy romántico, sin muchas experiencias en temas amorosos, no se había dado cuenta de que Juan era un pica flor, tenía diversas "flores" a las cuales les brindaba su galante atención. Pero Isabela solo sabia de sus bellas palabras, de sus falsas promesas y de sus audaces caricias..., sin darse cuenta, había caído en sus redes, como tantas otras más..., ya Isabela no era pura, tenía que casarse así fuera con Juan que era un Gorger, era eso o el completo destierro de los suyos, pues nadie iba a querer a una joven manchada para casarse...
Lo que no contaba Isabela era que su madre, era una gran vidente, aparte madre y había intuido que su hija estaba enamorada, la cosa era con quien..., así que decidió mandarla a seguir con sus hermanos y que le averiguaran con quien se estaba encontrando Isabela. Pronto los chicos, vieron a su bella hermana internarse en una pensión de mala muerte, en uno de esos horribles cuartos; saliendo de allí al cabo de unas dos horas, apurada, arreglándose nerviosamente. De inmediato, fueron corriendo y le contaron a la madre de Isabela.

Está de inmediato se dispuso a esperar a Isabela. Al llegar la confrontó ya a Isabela, no le quedaba más, que decir la verdad; su madre le dijo que ese hombre tenía que repararle por lo menos la honra, así no fuera uno de los suyos; era eso o el destierro... A la mañana siguiente, tomó a Isabela y fue al encuentro de aquel escurridizo joven. Se encontraron y sin mucho preámbulo, la madre de Isabela le exigió matrimonio para su hija. Juan se deshizo en promesas, que al pasar el tiempo no fue cumpliendo, ni boda, ni un hogar, ni familia... al contrario, desapareció.
Isabela trató de seguir su vida, pero ya los rumores se habían esparcido en su comunidad, ningún hombre honesto de su etnia la quería para matrimonio..., su destino estaba escrito. Pero Isabela, a pesar de llorar a mares, sabían que tenían que mantenerse ella y su familia, ella y su madre viuda eran las proveedoras de aquel hogar. Había conseguido una audición en un establecimiento de moda y esto le daba ilusión, se preparó con su mejor vestuario, su madre la animaba a seguir, aunque sabía de su notable tristeza, tenía la certeza que su hija tenía futuro en la cantada y aparte era joven, hermosa.
Se llegó el día de su debut, el local estaba a rebosar; cuando Isabela al subir escenario; se estaba instalando para empezar su actuación, cuando de repente, apareció Juan acompañado de una hermosa mujer, todo el mundo hizo un silencio, pues aquella mujer era despampanante y Juan no se quedaba atrás, eran una pareja perfecta a la vista. Isabela, al observar todo aquello, no pudo empezar a cantar, su voz se le quebró en la garganta; el público empezó a abuchearla, Isabela salió corriendo tras del escenario. Su madre al ver a su hija llorando desconsolada busco el motivo entre el público y les vio...
La madre de Isabela, se llenó de furia, pero muy calmadamente se dirigió a aquella mesa donde la pareja reía feliz de la vida. Juan, al verla, palideció, pero esta no le dio tiempo a emitir palabra, solo le dijo: "Las risas que ahora tenéis, pronto no las tendrán; las lágrimas que ahora llora mi hija serán multiplicadas para tu mujer, nunca lograran ser felices, que así sea" y se llevó el pulgar a los labios y lo beso, con mucho rencor y se fue..., Isabela al poco tiempo, volvió a intentar cantar y triunfo, pronto sus lágrimas fueron secándose, en los brazos de un nuevo amor, que aunque no era un gitano era un buen hombre.
Al poco tiempo, se enteró de que Juan había tenido un terrible accidente junto a su nueva "amiga", quedando muerto en el sitio y ella en una silla de ruedas. Al instante recordó las palabras de su madre aquel fatídico día y no pudo menos que estremecerse; solo su madre, que en ese momento estaba en su mecedora, se mecía suavemente, riéndose muy levemente, respirando con una satisfacción macabra…

Isabela was a young and beautiful gypsy, full of joy and song, she liked to dance and sing her songs full of rhythm and mischief; although they were in full actuality, progress, nor the great inventions of civilization had made them give up their traditions, although many mocked them; but this to Isabela and her great family clan few cared. They tried to interact with society, working in what they could and preparing themselves in what they were given, even though their women were not allowed to study beyond basic school, since their main duty was to prepare themselves to be housewives, faithful and chaste wives for another gypsy.
The only thing the women were allowed to do was to tell their fortunes, sing and dance wherever they were allowed... Isabela, who had prepared herself since she was a child in singing and was already a professional, was waiting for her chance. In that moment she met a very handsome young man, that since she saw him, her eyes had nowhere else to look, he had beautiful dimples on his cheeks, big deep black eyes, abundant black hair and an enviable figure; but there was a detail her beloved was a [Gorger](https://aerisdigital.es/cocina/que-es-un-gorger-segun-los-gitanos/) and his family was not going to accept him, she knew it. That intrepid character's name was Juan, he had already had the audacity to introduce himself to her.

What Isabela did not count on was that her mother was a great seer, apart from her mother and she had intuited that her daughter was in love, the thing was with whom..., so she decided to send her to follow with her brothers and that they would find out with whom Isabela was meeting. Soon, the boys saw their beautiful sister going into a shabby boarding house, in one of those horrible rooms; leaving there after about two hours, in a hurry, nervously arranging herself. Immediately, they ran and told Isabela's mother.
She immediately set out to wait for Isabela. When she arrived, she confronted Isabela, she had no choice but to tell the truth; her mother told her that the man had to at least repair her honor, even if he was not one of her own; it was that or banishment.... The next morning, she took Isabela and went to meet that elusive young man. They met and without much ado, Isabela's mother demanded marriage for her daughter. Juan made promises, but as time went by he did not keep them, no wedding, no home, no family... on the contrary, he disappeared.
Isabela tried to continue her life, but rumors had already spread in her community, no honest man of her ethnic group wanted her for marriage..., her destiny was written. But Isabela, despite crying her eyes out, knew that she had to support herself and her family, she and her widowed mother were the providers of that home. She had gotten an audition in a fashionable establishment and this gave her illusion, she prepared herself with her best wardrobe, her mother encouraged her to continue, although she knew of her notable sadness, she was certain that her daughter had a future in singing and besides she was young, beautiful.
The day of her debut arrived, the place was overflowing; when Isabela went on stage; she was settling down to begin her performance, when suddenly, Juan appeared accompanied by a beautiful woman, everyone was silent, because that woman was stunning and Juan was not far behind, they were a perfect couple in sight. Isabela, when she saw all this, could not start singing, her voice broke in her throat; the audience started to boo her, Isabela ran off the stage. Her mother, seeing her daughter crying disconsolately, looked for the reason among the audience and saw them?
Isabela's mother, filled with fury, but very calmly went to the table where the couple was laughing happily. Juan, when he saw her, paled, but she did not give him time to say a word, she only said: "The laughs that you have now, soon they will not have them; the tears that my daughter cries now will be multiplied for your wife, they will never be happy, so be it" and she put her thumb to her lips and kissed it, with a lot of resentment and left. ..., Isabela soon tried to sing again and triumphed, soon her tears were drying, in the arms of a new love, who although he was not a gypsy was a good man.
Soon after, she learned that Juan had had a terrible accident with her new "friend", leaving him dead on the spot and her in a wheelchair. She instantly remembered her mother's words that fateful day and could not help but shudder; only her mother, who at that moment was in her rocking chair, rocked gently, laughing very lightly, breathing with a macabre satisfaction...
