One of the reasons the month of January is seen as the longest and financially tightest month is because, for some reason, it usually has the most number of bills to be paid when compared to the other months of the year. In the month of January alone, you’ll have so much to pay that by the time your salary finally rolls around, you might be in debt due to the fact that you had to take loans to offset the bills.

That is one of the reasons this month is so vital because how you carry yourself in this month alone can determine how the rest of the year will go for you. If you’re not careful, you can end up paying debts for the rest of the year, or you can be wise about your spending so that by April or May, at the very least, you will have gotten yourself back on your feet.

Like I said, the month of January is full of bills. Like school fees, and if you’ve got multiple kids, then you’ve got multiple fees to pay as January is usually the start of a new term for children and a new semester in the University. Another major bill to consider would be rent, although this won’t work for everyone because not everyone pays at the start of the year.

We’ve not even counted other little bills like food, gas, power, taxes, and the like. And now, I’m hearing that there is talk of increasing the price of petrol even more. And all I can see is basically nothing but a nightmare that’s waiting to unfold. If we’re getting petrol at over a dollar per liter, the price of every other thing in the country would quadruple.

Businesses are run these days majorly on petrol because we have such an epileptic power supply, and then the goods and services provided by those businesses are also transported by vehicles that run on petrol. So, everything just shoots up. We thought things had come to the worst in the country, but if this happened, we’d see it at a point we had never expected. And it’s scary!

This is not the kind of news one should be getting in this new year, and January at that. The fear that this will increase the bills we all have to pay is paramount and I don’t see how we can avoid that. We’ve all gotten used to the last increment, and now, we’d have to suffer for a few months and get used to the new increment as well. I’m just tired, honestly.

But then, so far, all this is speculation. It’s only talks and there’s nothing concrete yet even though blogs are carrying it about. Until it becomes a reality, then it’s still speculation. I hope it remains a speculation because I don’t even want to think of how much tougher life will get if it isn’t.

Anyway… let’s all watch and see. The year is still young, and anything at all can happen. I’m still looking forward to all the possibilities out there, and I’m certain that no matter what, I’ve already started this year on the right foot.
