To the time before corporations like Uber and Bolt became a thing. Yeah, take this walk with me down memory lane, there is something I want to tell you. Back then, there were no Google maps, and there were only Taxis. Yeah, those small yellow cars that zipped their way across the city picking people up and dropping them. These people were totally in control of how they charged their customers.  <sub>[Image by Nick Fewings](https://unsplash.com/photos/MlZnEM4LUwY)</sub> They charged each customer differently, distance they were going to carry you for, if you are alone or not, and if you are a stranger in the area. For that last bit, once they realize you are a stranger and therefore you have no knowledge of the area, they can choose to take you round and round in circles, charging you exorbitantly when in fact the journey itself was only a small one. And with the taxi, everything can be added to your charge, like if you were traveling with someone, or if you had a substantial load, whatever it was at all, they would add more money to it and you would have to pay it. And then, the private companies came to the rescue and saved everyone. And how did they do this? By making everyone a potential taxi driver. They control the charge and also control how it can be used. They placed everything directly in the power of the people.  This way, people do not have to be full-time taxi drivers, they can be drivers only in their spare time while they will still go on with their work and other commitments. They also revamped the customer experience by allowing more than one passenger to go for the price of one. How is this done? When one person places an order for Uber or Bolt, when the ride comes, he can decide to go with three or four of his friends on the same trip. And the price will not change. As long as they can fit into the car comfortably, then they are definitely good to go.  <sub>[Image by Carlesdeluvio](https://unsplash.com/photos/Vm0uJEXxFJw)</sub> And also, with this new system, they make use of Google maps, both drivers and passengers. Even if you have not been to the area before, you are good to go as long as you are with your smartphone device. You can monitor the journey and know if you are being taken somewhere you are not supposed to be. Also, for the driver, if you are given a location and you check it out on the map and it is in a place you are not certain of, maybe due to safety reasons, you can decide to opt-out of the deal. You would not drive them and they would have to find some other driver. Also, one of the latest features of their apps is for friends and loved ones to be able to track your movements live. Once you get into the Uber and you begin your journey, you can send a link to your friends and family and they will be tracking your movement as well. They will know every turn you make and every stop until you get to your final destination.  <sub>[Image by Thibault Penin](https://unsplash.com/photos/a8r2KKLSntA)</sub> This is a security factor that is used to ensure the safety of the customers. Many of these features are the reason even those that used to operate taxis switched to Uber and Bolt and many are now doing it full time. Others choose to do it in their spare time after they close from work. And because of that, we have professionals like medical doctors, chartered accountants, engineers, and even teachers who after the close of work, would get into the car and hit the streets.  And thanks to the internet, they do not have to be going around driving around town looking for passengers. They can remain at home and search. Once there is a potential customer in their vicinity they will get the notification on their smartphone, if they choose to work with the person they will accept it and thus drive to pick them up. Corporations like Uber and Bolt have revolutionalized the taxi industry and made it even better, and it keeps getting better day by day. More people will keep using them and thus they will get more popular, and unfortunately, taxi cabs will become a thing of the past. Already they are already fading from memory. Even now it is difficult to see a cab on the road. Different brands may exist in your country, but basically, they have the same objective, to make transportation as affordable and profitable as possible for both passengers and drivers. And they are achieving that aim already. I canβt wait to see how this grows in the future; maybe it will spread out to the sea and the air. I guess only time will tell. What do you think of this? And yeah, thanks to Internets, they make we are connected, make our live is easier. πππ I think modern and traditional taxi is better, depending on how you use their services, modern taxis may be a bit more expensive than regular taxis but the service they provide means you don't have to wait for them on the side of the road and the payment also means you don't have to take money out of your pocket when you're in a hurry. Traditional taxis, are slightly cheaper and more flexible but they are not equipped with futuristic equipment and will not be able to pick you up from your doorstep. But if you just got off the plane and want to go to the hotel, then the traditional taxi is your choice, because you don't have to order it in advance because they have been prepared by the airport.
