The Reputation System was recently implemented at steemit and everyone now more than ever is avoiding those little redflags on their posts. The Reputation is deeply linked with the upvotes and redflags and in this post, I'll try to explain why do I think steemit needs some information layers regarding flagging.

# The Problem..

User's reputation can be affected when someone flags their post, currently, when clicking the icon http://i.imgur.com/WkEvmxf.png it only shows this: http://i.imgur.com/UG0wz5K.png

Once the users clicks OK, the post or comment will be flagged and it's not clear why did someone downvote a post, why did he/she redflag it? Was it abusive content? was some revenge that has nothing to do with the post? at this point, anyone can redflag without any justification. This lack of clarity leads to uncertainty and an author never really knows the reasons behind the redflags.

At the moment, it only shows the number of redflags a post has but it does not show who gave the redflag. If the upvote is public and it's easy to see who has upvoted, the same criteria should be applied to the redflags. So on the rollover of http://i.imgur.com/WkEvmxf.png it should show the list of the users who downvoted:

# Countermeasures..

### First Layer: Who
The first layer would be really easy to implement and it has been explained above. Start by adding the list of users who downvoted.

### Second Layer: Why
Users should add a reason why they flagged a content. They could should from a list of options or he could write his own reason. Adding this second layer of information will benefit everyone because it will be clearer to everyone and the authors would know who and why did they downvote. Knowing the reason for the downvote can prevent more downvotes in the future.

For example, a user has the perfect post but he notices 6 downvotes. He rollovers the http://i.imgur.com/WkEvmxf.png and he now know that 5 of the downvotes were due to "Abusive spamming" and now he understands that he was spamming the steemit.chat and he can correct that to avoid further redflags. Below it's a very basic mockup on how the submission modal could be and how it could be seen in the frontend:

### Their Layer: RedFlagging Curation

The last thing that I have in mind is the ability to upvote or downvote a redflag. This can be useful in many ways, for example, User XPT posts some pornographic material and it starts to get downvoted, in this case, theres no need to control the redflags because it was content that is not allowed on the platform. But this layer can be useful when someone starts getting flagged and the reason of the redflag is not justifiable, other users may notice that some redflags are also abusive and are meant to do harm to the author without justification.

So, mainly the users could go a little deeper and have a little more control over the redflags, who's giving them and why. By curating the redflags users could also gain or lose reputation and possible this could incentive users to use redflags in a more conscious way.
