BONDS OF LOVE

Love is like the delicate flower than blossoms despite all odds. It appears that much more fragrant because of its survival. If you saw [Spectacular Surprises](https://hive.blog/hive-194913/@buckaroobaby/spectacular-surprises) you would know that I received an incredible gift over the weekend in the arrival - unannounced of my brother @craigcryptoking. The spectacular part of the surprise is that this is the first time he has been to our homestead. We've lived here for a decade.

It was a big family reunion as he fetched our parents for the few days together. Apart from combined birthday celebrations - I baked decadent cakes of course - there was homesteading golf on the fields and late night fireside discussions and then a long walk up our mountainside. The views are breathtaking.

It is quite a hike. Worth the effort but not something we do as a weekly excercise. With all the homesteading responsibilities that fill our days, as well as the fact that one of the children need to be carried, I don't hike up as often as I would like. What a blessing to be able to take my brother up there. It is a different world up there. And from there. It is also wonderful to go up now that the drought has broken and the valley is recovering. Life is evident everywhere.

We never go alone. Whether we like it or not at least two or three of our cats accompany us. As well as the dogs. The goats would've led the way if I had let them. However after the rain the mountains are dotted with krimpsiek bossie - a highly toxic succulent - which causes the livestock a painful death. The sheep and goats are limited to the fields. On a joyful note I am delighted to see how much of the natural flora and fauna have survived the long drought.

Every time we have rain - even a little the mountain is a riot of colour. The vibrant greens spotted with the dainty flowers are something to behold. Up on the mountaintop the rock formations and colours are also worth stopping to admire. My brother @craigcryptoking regretted not having a backpack to carry down some of the beautiful rocks and dried wood. But I guess it'll have to wait for his next visit!

The last week will live in my memory. It was special to see new bonds growing between my children and their faraway uncle. As well as their Gramps @quailbreeder. We had many laughs. And not a few tears. Before we left the mountaintop we discovered this delicate iris. With no explanation as to how it survives it stands tall and beautiful. The wind can be quite fierce up there. How these delicate flowers even germinate in the stony ground is a mystery. But it is typical of how love survives despite all.

Thank you. He is a beauty. And so soft. He doesn't usually come with us. Usually its our ginger and tabbies. They go as far as we are prepared to go. Always amazes us.

What a heart touching story Tracey. I know how it is not seeing your sibling for a long time since my sister lives in Slovakia. Thank goodness for internet that we can keep in tough that way, but I still miss her!!! So I can imagine how joyful your the time with your brother and the whole family must of been. Lovely photos too especially that iris! They are flowering here too right now 🌸💜🌸
