Working on my car and working on SCOTtest
A week and a half ago the timing belt slipped on my car and blew the engine :( It was a sad day.

Let me tell you a little about my car. It is a 1989 BMW 525i. I have had this car for around 5 years. It currently has 300,000km on the clock and up until a week ago was running great.

I do all my own work on the car. I have been doing this my whole life so I feel pretty confident about taking on pretty big mechanical jobs. Being an old car there are always things that need fixing.

When I bought the car 5 years ago it had been sitting in a heated garage since 2001. It needed work, but for the most part it was all there. The seller assured me that the timing best and water pump had been replaced. Sadly that was not true. In hindsight I should have done it myself when I had been working it over the years.

Alas, I did not. The timing belt slipped and damaged the engine.

For the past few days I have stripping down the engine and repairing the parts that needed attention. This evening I put things back together. Tomorrow I hope to finish the job and start her back up. Fingers crossed :)

I am also using this post as a test for the new SCOTtest token :) Very exciting times for our blockchain.

That's a pretty tough way to discover the timing belt had not been changed! How has the job gone, was there plenty of room for you to work? It's a great feeling to hear an engine roar back into life after completing a job like this but I always close my eyes and pray when I first turn the key :D Good luck mate

Hey @article61. The car is easy to work on. There is a lot of room and things are logical in their layout. I have not gotten her running yet, but I am hoping later tonight I will be done. I put the head back on on last night and torqued everything down. Today is plumbing, electrical and timing. After that she starts.... I hope :)
