> # A new way of understanding videogames and relationships: *Essays On Empathy*

I came back with another game to analyze and I have been surfing through some development teams installed in these territories and their works, although I have already played several titles of Deconstructeam, game studio responsible for titles like Gods Will Be Watching I have become curious with his new release which simply named as Essays On Empathy which is one of those titles that I like because they are purely experimental, they don't have a beginning or an end, each player gives it a different meaning and each analyst has the power to decide if it is a title worthy of being played, and for my part is a game that has left me a good taste in my mouth, both for his daring to make an experience alien in every way to what we are used to the video game as for its presentation, a very good script and a superb design, I'll talk more about it soon...

Because first we must talk about its development, you see, Essays On Empathy is a kind of experiment that emerged over several sessions of jams of the developers of the studio, the goal was to make contained experiences that address various social problems and transform them into a video game, just as you hear, it sounds more like a psychologist's experiment than a videogame but believe me when I tell you that it is a journey through everything that interactive audiovisual experiences can achieve, and I do not say this lightly, this game deals with such strong and controversial issues these days as abuse, discrimination, racism, or more psychological issues such as depression and depression, or more psychological issues such as depression and anxiety, making small experiences made to last just over 1 hour, but it is enough time to plant us an idea and make a difference as a playable experience, because not only we see each story written for each of the mini games that we are presented but brilliantly in my opinion, also integrates an option to hear the thoughts of the developers, writers and artistic about the creative process that each of these titles has, a multimedia that makes total difference when we play it as it gives us a small guide on the intentions of each creator.

It is a process of evolution in the end because we will also have a small timeline of what years were developed in each title and how they improve with the concepts and how to present them over the years, mini-games that present the professional crisis as something very intimate and that affects both the individual and his entire family is treated in a very human way and at no time feels forced, we are put in various situations involving different characters with radically different problems both in proportion and in meaning, moments like a daughter trying to start the truck of his deceased father are contrasted with those of an open world where we will explore the darkness that sometimes radiates in the desires of people, a whole journey in a few minutes of gameplay and that for a few sketches are quite well done except for some bugs that are usually common in this type of games "unfiltered".

Some of the games of this experience as its first world Behind Every Great One, portrays how a society in many cases macho has minimized many of the routine tasks that most wives do and they are not given a fair treatment to these, it is an experience as frustrating as short but has a message that hits hard and makes clear the purpose of these experiences, small intimate and introspective messages that leave us thinking and motivate us to continue in the game, of course the comments of the developers on how they wanted to create this first work are gold, a very well thought out guide for those players who want a much more direct message, from the director to the player. 

This first experience portrays very well what we will see in the others, although at times it tends to become repetitive, it is very interesting to see the evolution of the studio in each of these works, the messages they leave and especially how the game has evolved in such a way that we can convey these issues and make them visible, I don't think Essay On Empathy is a work that I can widely recommend given its characteristics as a playable experiment, however if you like games that subvert expectations and open a new range to our understanding of the medium you can be sure that you will love it, I recommend it.
