Another week and another vlog, finally trying to get back into that Friday routine after so many weeks of mixed up days - there just is never enough hours in the work day to get everything done and even squeezing this in is a challenge.

So with the first two Bank Holidays of the month behind us it’s been a good 5 day week to start trying to catch up - but as usual demand is strong so just keeping up with orders has remained a challenge let alone building up a holding stock of roasted coffee. An with four pallets of green coffee in - 600kg per pallet there has been a lot of sorting and moving stock around to go along with the daily grind.

And Wednesday I had to hand back the Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid at the end of it’s two years lease - how two years have flown by and to be honest it was a really good car - my first automatic and what an experience - along with the super smooth driving - not consistent with all automatics as I found out last year when having loan cars after mine had a knock on the side thanks to someone pulling out of a side road. Anyway the assessor came to check the car over - and he was thorough a good half hour checking inside and out - mainly out for dents, scratches and marks. I’m pleased to say he commented it looked “like brand new” and was one of the best looked after cars he had seen in a while - showing me a packet of fluorescent arrows he has to put on every dent and scratch to highlight them - none on the Toyota. Over two years I had 16,000 miles max to use - and only use 12,000 - so that and the fact that used Hybirds are selling at near new prices because there are no stocks of new - the leasing company will do very well out of this one as it will sell incredibly high compared to what they expected - pristine inside and out and very low mileage. Good luck to the new owner.

So Wednesday I took the work Van home, at 17 years old it still runs ok - getting used to a manual gearbox, with clutch, and a handbrake - well it’s tricky but like riding a bike you just kind of remember when you need to.

Thursday I had some people over for roasting training to learn about how to use their machine, and of course just roasting more stock at the same time. And then in the afternoon I had to dash off to the train station to grab a train to Manchester Victoria station, and then an Uber to Trafford Centre overflow car park - to the Tesla collection point Manchester. And there were hundreds - and I do mean many hundreds of Tesla’s parked there - Model 3 and Model Y in all colours on display at the kiosk entrance - and then in the back car park - just Tesla heaven.

Needless to say I was there for a reason, and my Model Y collection time was 16:30 - as I arrived a little early at 15:45 I thought it would be fine because with all these Tesla’s sat here there would be staff looking after them. Surprisingly the collection centre automatic doors would not open, in fact with an all glass panel front it was clear nobody was inside it either. Having a look around I could see the massive Tesla storage area to the left, and behind the centre a smaller area of Tesla’s marked in a Staff Only area - and I could see my Reg plate in that line - but no people. So I had a good look at the display Model 3 and Model Y’s - had another look around everywhere else I could but it seemed Tesla had gone full automation on car hand overs even. A quick call to customer services, who were surprised at the lack of staff “could be on a break” - or more likely as I was not due until 4.30pm if they had no pressing work were just hanging out somewhere more interesting. Anyway customer services rang them and sure enough a few minutes after a couple of staff appeared from the back to handle my pick up.

Finally having a person to deal with the hand over was a simple as the whole process of ordering, Tesla have really streamlined the whole car purchasing system making it so straight forward - something they need to move the volume Ellon Musk wants to do. After checking my Drivers Licence, my account and confirming my deposit payment straight to the car to go through the main controls, pair my iPhone as a key and that was it. I was then left to check the car over, try it out if needed with the offer of going back to the representative if I had any issues or any more questions.

Having read up on Tesla’s for the last few years, I knew to check for any defects - panel gaps, paint issues, marks, scratches etc. Honestly looking around it was flawless - and maybe I just don’t have the quality expectations of some people but it looked tidy and new to me so top marks there. Driving is super easy, right stick down for drive and up for reverse and push in to park. I pulled out of the space a bit further up - parked - opened the boot and frunk to check them - again all good. As it only had 31% charge the rep had showed me how to select Super Chargers and just down the road at the Trafford Centre there was a set so I headed off for a power up. No drama, pulled up, plugged in and it started charging while I went about setting all the many, many preferences I wanted. Went for a quick toilet break and to grab a cold drink, 30 minutes and 31% went to 91% - what’s this about electric cars taking forever to charge?

30 Mile drive home, and the enhanced autopilot is a dream, motorway traffic it just kept position with the car in front effortlessly - lane tracking auto steer worked well - I did not really get chance to try out the auto lane change because of the heavy evening traffic - but what I would expect to be a miserable motorway experience was just - well relaxing.

24 Hours in and it’s not a car, it’s an amazing experience. I can see why having all the controls on a touch screen is not everyone’s preference - but honestly it’s so intuitive you can work it out in no time - and who needs buttons and dials and when you can hold down the right scroll wheel and tell it what you want - “Open the glove box” - it just pops open. “Drop it like it’s hot” - cabin temperature drops 1.5 degrees - you can literally voice control everything - you can tell your car what you want - no looking away from the road or letting go of the steering wheel.  Your speed indication is top right on the display for the right hand drive Tesla’s - and it’s just super easy to look at just to the left of the steering wheel - in fact peering at a centre console has often been harder to see a speed then that and far more distracting from the main objective of looking at the road.

Overall another interesting and hectic working week, but with another Bank Holiday due soon it’s going to be head down and flat out work to keep up.
