To exhaust my new 30kg Roasters ducting outside I purchased 4 section of 3m long and 300mm diameter steel ducting. The first section my aim was to cut it so I could add the Y section to join the cooling, and have enough left from the cut to fit between the cooling pipe and the Y joint. That is a pretty big ask given everything is up in the air so the only easy way to judge distance is by eye.

Photo fail, this is why I normally take a few shots at the same time, one always ends up out of focus. Only took this one - but you need it to get a measure of the problem. The cooling ducting is lower then the main roaster outlet ducting - plus the Y piece is angled way to the right so I connect a piece of ducting to it a is then it will end up nowhere near the pipe I need it to connect to.

So after spending most of the day walking back and forth past my problem while roasting coffee on the smaller roaster, slowly a plan formed in my head. If I cut a small section of ducting at an angle so when it is fitted to the Y the ducting from the lower and straighter cooling pipe should sort of fit...

After more handy work with the angle grinder, we have an off set cut.

It isn't easy cutting this stuff straight, cutting an angle is even harder. Anyway I was at the point of it will either work or I will need to totally rethink the plan. Steel toe capped boot front included to give size measurement lol.

By some complete incredible fluke of luck, the angle worked perfect and my guesstimate of cutting the pipe also worked perfect as the shorter left over section fitted perfect between the roaster cooling ducting and my Y piece connection mod.

Well perfect on one side, on the opposite side there is this small gappy bit. BUT, the ducting I cut at an angle needs straightening again - so what will happen then?

Oh look, that might just fit somewhere to fill a gap...with lashings of high temperature aluminium tape to keep it all sealed.

Behold the slightly shonky but it all fits together cooling into exhaust mod.

It's worth mentioning this section just carries the cooling air that is sucked over the hot roasted coffee beans when they are released from the roaster. So no burner gasses and not very much smoke - plus all that tape actually makes a really good seal - given there is no pressure in the pipework.

And this is where I have got to tonight, the right hand section is obviously not joined yet - it is a full 3m long section and it needs to be meeting the angled joint to slide onto it exactly straight. The fitting is really tight so there is no margin for error -and because there is only me trying to position it - I have to use the ceiling mounting wires to position the pipe - and every time I change the position a fraction it needs a new wire fitting and then the old removing. Tedious work, it would be quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands but that is limited right now.

In another week I might get to run the first big 30kg batch of coffee through this roaster...
