<div class="text-justify">Lo agarré y pensé en buscar un sitio con plantas, como un jardín delantero de alguna casa, caminé bastante y aunque encontré varios ninguno me pareció. Finalmente encontré un terreno grande abandonado muy adecuado por la cantidad de plantas y la poca afluencia de personas.</div><p></p>

<div class="text-justify">Indagando en la literatura para definir la especie al escarabajo lo ubiqué en la familia Scarabaeidae, subfamilia Dynastinae y tribu Oryctini, pero me encontré con la dificultad de identificar el género y la especie, no obstante podría ser <em>Oryctes nasicornis</em> o <em>Strategus aloeus</em>. Lo que si definí es que era una hembra porque no tenía cuernos.</div><p></p>

<div class="text-justify">En relación con la dificultad para identificar el género y especie del escarabajo comento dificultades de otros, por ejemplo, a partir de una combinación de propuestas de varios investigadores que analizaron a la familia Scarabaeidae en series (Pleurosticti y Laparosticti), surgió que los grupos que tuvieran las características de la serie Pleurosticti deberían ser elevados a una familia independiente denominada Melolonthidae, y en parte, por eso en ocasiones es habitual encontrar a la subfamilia Dynastinae en la familia Melolonthidae.</div><p></p>

<div class="text-justify">Pienso que si el escarabajo hubiese sido un macho quizás pudiera haber definido el género y la especie, porque los machos de <em>Oryctes</em> y <em>Strategus</em> se distinguen de las hembras por poseer grandes cuernos frontales, pero indagando en la literatura encontré otra dificultad de investigadores, que reevaluando morfologías del género <em>Augosoma</em> (tribu Dynastini), específicamente la especie <em>Augosoma centaurus</em>, comparando con especies del género <em>Oryctes</em>, entre otras, en particular de especímenes femeninos, que muestran muchos caracteres compartidos, confirmaron la proximidad genética de <em>Augosoma</em> y <em>Oryctes</em> mediante datos de la secuencia de ADN. Por lo tanto, sugirieron que los géneros <em>Augosoma</em> y <em>Oryctes</em> deberían agruparse juntos, y no dividirse en dos tribus diferentes. Estos resultados cuestionan la separación de las tribus Dynastini y Oryctini y lo más curioso es que cuestiona el uso tradicional de caracteres exagerados del macho para establecer una clasificación sistemática.</div><p></p>
<div class="text-justify"><blockquote>I think that if the beetle had been a male I might have been able to define the genus and species, because males of <em>Oryctes</em> and <em>Strategus</em> are distinguished from females by having large frontal horns, but searching the literature I found another difficulty of researchers, who re-evaluating morphologies of the genus <em>Augosoma</em> (Dynastini tribe), specifically the species <em>Augosoma centaurus</em>, comparing with species of the genus <em>Oryctes</em>, among others, particularly of female specimens, which show many shared characters, confirmed the genetic proximity of <em>Augosoma</em> and <em>Oryctes</em> by DNA sequence data. Therefore, they suggested that the genera <em>Augosoma</em> and <em>Oryctes</em> should be grouped together, and not split into two different tribes. These results question the separation of the Dynastini and Oryctini tribes and, most interestingly, challenge the traditional use of exaggerated male characters to establish a systematic classification.</blockquote></div><p></p>

<div class="text-justify">Como con mucha probabilidad el escarabajo que encontré pertenece a la tribu Oryctini, comentaré un poco. La tribu Oryctini es uno de grupos más diversos en la subfamilia Dynastinae, la tribu incluye más de 25 géneros con más de 220 especies distribuidas mundialmente. Los miembros adultos de la tribu se caracterizan por su cuerpo grande y robusto, mandíbulas por lo general anchas y muy expuestas. En este grupo el dimorfismo sexual es muy acentuado, los machos tienen cuernos frontales y las hembras no.</div><p></p>
