Application of technology to learn mathematics: Case of the Free Software Geogebra 5.0

Greetings friends of the community of Project Hope.

In this opportunity I want to share with you some technology applied to the education area, this time I want to show you the free use software geogebra 5.0 that basically is a program or mathematical software that can be used both for teachers in mathematics at any level or students who want to expand their basic knowledge through some other technological tool that complements the traditional teaching in the way they have learned mathematics.

Without a doubt, we math teachers can never lose the horizon of maintaining traditional teaching to teach the most common algebraic math skills so that students can achieve meaningful learning, but there comes a point where students can already demand more dynamic math teaching, where for example many times in the order of mathematics we need to generate graphics in the two and three dimensional plane in a dynamic way in which students can be stimulated by having another vision for their learning in relation to a new way of teaching, in the case of the software geogebra we are allowed to generate dynamic graphics like the one I show below:

In the receptive way in which technology is being received by young students, the only thing left is the acceptance of this type of technology by us teachers, especially math teachers.

In the previous image we can see an animated image, in which basically we enter to the geogebra program and it is created a slider that moves the parabola and the straight line in a programming that is made to that slider which can move not only to this type of graphics, but to all that we place in the entrance of the geogebra software. 

As an experience I can tell you that I have used this program for my calculus III classes in the University and I have seen the positive change that it exerts on the students to be able to appreciate a different and more innovative way of seeing the mathematics, geometry, algebra, statistics and calculus by means of this type of technology.

My recommendation is that every teacher in the area of mathematics who reads this publication download the software geogebra in any of its versions, in my case I have installed 5.0, but the important thing is that this tool allows diversifying in a different and innovative way the mathematical knowledge, stimulating in this way the significant learning in our students.
