The death of Christ on the cross is a central act for Christianity, it is interesting to know that the word for cross in Latin comes from the word "crucial", that is, central, important. "For the word of the cross is foolishness for those who are lost, but for us the saved is the power of God ... but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling stone for the Jews, and foolishness for the Gentiles" (1 Cor. 1 : 18, 23).

The feminist Deloris Williams is a modern example of people who are offended with the cross in our day. She stated: "I think we do not need a theory in which sins are paid with the death of someone. I do not think we need a guy hanging on a cross, bleeding and other things of this type. "

We can understand the natural repulsion that people feel for the cross. The execution of death on the cross was terribly cruel. To tell the truth, it was legalized sadism. It was probably one of the most depraved forms of execution invented by man. Nothing more and nothing less was a slow death by torture. It really worked, never ever did anyone in the story survive a death by crucifixion.

But for those who believe, the cross has perfect meaning. The salvation of man can only occur when the law of God is satisfied, the law that was always broken by man. Only God can forgive; but only man can pay. Christ truly God and truly man, put himself in the place of man, as representative of those who believe, and suffered the merited penalty, satisfying the divine justice of God.
