Last week, before I could return home from Portugal, I had to do a last training in a laboratory in the Spanish city of Cadiz (Andalusia). The training was for three days, so I had the opportunity to tour the city my second of stay and I take this moment to share with you the excursion I took on Thursday afternoon.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">After consulting the distances between different points of interest that were recommended to me at the hotel I was staying, I looked at the Google Maps application to see what was the best itinerary to see in one afternoon the main sights of the city.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Because the Caleta beach, the San Sebastian Castle and the Santa Catalina Castle are a little distant from the rest of the points of interest, I planned to visit the first 8 places by parking my car in the parking Campo del Sur which is located near the cathedral on the promenade and then I moved to the parking El Tenis to visit the other three places of interest.</div><p>


### Vendaval Promenade views

<div class="text-justify">After leaving the Campo del Sur parking, I had decided to go to the new Cathedral. However, the first thing you see when you leave the parking is the mesmerizing blue of the sea and from the promenade you have a beautiful view of the boardwalk and also the back of the new cathedral.</div><p>

### Cádiz Cathedral

<div class="text-justify">After a few photos on the boardwalk, I moved along the promenade to the cathedral of Cadiz, the first thing that strikes the attention of this cathedral is that its stone has different coloration, this is because its construction was very long in time and was undergoing changes depending on the architects who supervised the work. That is why the cathedral has varied architectural styles, highlighting the baroque and neoclassical style. I personally liked to see this cathedral compared to other cathedrals I have in the north of Spain, which are usually of Romanesque or Gothic styles.</div><p>

### Old Cathedral of Cadiz
<div class="text-justify">After visiting the current cathedral I decided to move about 200 meters and visit the old cathedral. This cathedral is nowadays reconverted and you can find it as the parish of the Holy Cross in the Fray Felix square. Its interior has some very beautiful altarpieces, but I could not take pictures.</div><p>

### Roman Theater of Cadiz

<div class="text-justify">Once you have visited the old cathedral, walking another 300 meters, you can find the Roman theater of Cadiz. Because my walk was in the afternoon, the access was closed. So I recommend travelers to consult in advance the access schedules.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Next, my goal was to move to the Plaza de San Juan de Dios through the street that has the same name as the square. In this street one can find two points of interest such as the Arcos de los Blanco and the wall of Cadiz.</div><p>

### Los Blanco Arches

<div class="text-justify">Los Blanco Arches is a vestige of an ancient gateway to the Roman city of Cadiz. Over the centuries it has undergone several modifications, the most striking being the construction of a vault over one of its arches in the form of a chapel in honor of the Virgin of Los Remedios. But this vault no longer exists.</div><p>

### Wall of Cadiz
<div class="text-justify">Like any medieval city was not exempt from invasion attempts, so along the city of Cadiz we can find part of the wall that protected the city. In this case, I was able to photograph the part of the wall next to the arch of the Blanco and the Roman theater. This wall makes corner with the entrance to the town hall square or Plaza de San Juan de Dios.</div><p>

### San Juan de Dios Square

<div class="text-justify">It is a very nice square, with many palm trees to take shelter from the sun and the heat that usually occurs in summer. In the surrounding area there are many terraces where you can enjoy a drink, coffee or something to eat if you are hungry. In the central area of the square is the statue in honor of Segismundo Moret who was a writer and politician of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In this square, there is also the town hall of the city.</div><p>

### Tavira Tower

<div class="text-justify">After these visits in the old town walk for 10-15 minutes and I moved to the Tavira Tower which was one of the highest points of the city and served as a watchtower. Today it is a tourist attraction because it houses the camera obscura, two exhibition halls and a viewpoint, from which you can admire the entire historic center of the city.</div><p>

### Flowers Square

<div class="text-justify">To finish my view of the historic center, but not my view of the city from which I was moving back to the parking lot, I stopped at a beautiful square where there are several stalls selling flowers that gives the city a special aroma.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Once I arrived at the Campo del Sur parking lot, I headed to another area of the city where there are three points of interest. I parked my car in the El Tenis parking lot, near the national parador and after a 5 minute walk I arrived at the vicinity of the Caleta beach. The beach was beautiful and from there I could photograph the Castle of San Sebastian and later I approached the Castle of Santa Catalina to take some nice pictures.</div><p>

### La Caleta Beach

The Caleta beach is located in the heart of the old town of Cadiz. It is flanked on the left side by the Castle of San Sebastian and on the right side by the Castle of Santa Catalina. This beach was a Phoenician port next to the channel that separated at that time the two islands that confirm the current Cadiz, according to the information available on a tourist sign in the vicinity of the beach.

###  San Sebastian Castle

The castle of San Sebastian is located on the left flank of the Caleta beach. To access it you must cross the Caleta gate and through the canal bridge you can access the islet where this castle is located, which was one of the defensive barriers of the city in past centuries. At present, there is an oceanographic research laboratory inside the castle.

### Santa Catalina Castle

The castle of Santa Catalina is located on the right flank of the Caleta beach. It presents a striking pentagonal structure when according to the information exists at the entrance. Because access was restricted, I was only able to take a few photos of this ancient fortification from the outside.

<div class="text-justify">Once I finished my sightseeing tour I went to the hotel for dinner and rest to be able to work the next day. I was able to do this tour in about 3 hours, but I recommend doing this tour in the morning to have less heat and to be able to find the Roman theater open and also the visits to the castles of Santa Catalina and San Sebastian.</div><p>

La semana pasada, antes de poder regresar a mi casa procedente de Portugal, tuve que realizar una última formación en un laboratorio de la ciudad española de Cádiz (Andalucía). <div class="text-justify">Debido a que la playa de la Caleta, el Castillo de San Sebastián y el Castillo de Santa Catalina se encuentra un poco distanciados del resto de puntos de interés, planifiqué en primer lugar visitar los 8 primeros lugares aparcando mi coche en el parking Campo del Sur que se encuentra cerca de la catedral en pleno paseo marítimo y posteriormente me desplace al parking El Tenis para poder visitar los otros tres lugares de interés.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Tras salir del Parking Campo del Sur, yo tenía decidido ir a la Catedral nueva. Sin embargo, lo primero que ves al salir del parking es el azul hipnotizador del mar y desde el paseo marítimo tienes una perspectiva preciosa del malecón y también de la parte posterior de la catedral nueva.</div><p>

###  Catedral de Cádiz

<div class="text-justify">Tras unas fotos en el malecón, me desplace por el paseo hacia la catedral de Cádiz, lo primero que llama la atención de esta catedral es que tiene distinta coloración su piedra, esto es debido a que su construcción fue muy larga en el tiempo y fue sufriendo cambios en función de los arquitectos que supervisaban la obra. Es por ello que la catedral presenta estilos arquitectónicos variados, destacando el estilo barroco y neoclásico. A mí personalmente me gustó ver esta catedral respecto a otras catedrales que tengo en el norte de España que suele ser de estilos románicos o góticos.</div><p>

### Catedral Vieja de Cádiz

<div class="text-justify">Tras visitar la catedral actual decidí desplazarme unos 200 metros y visitar la catedral vieja. Esta catedral en la actualidad está reconvertida y la podréis localizar como parroquia de la santa cruz en la plaza fray Félix. Su interior presenta unos retablos muy bonitos, pero no pude sacar fotografías.</div><p>

### Teatro Romano de Cádiz

<div class="text-justify">Una vez, visitada la catedral vieja caminando otros 300 metros, uno puede encontrarse el teatro romano de Cádiz. Debido a que mi paseo fue en la tarde, el acceso estaba cerrado. Por lo que recomiendo a los viajeros que consulten con anterioridad los horarios de acceso.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">A continuación, mi objetivo fue desplazarme a la plaza de San Juan de Dios a través de la calle que tiene el mismo nombre que la plaza. En esta calle uno puede encontrarse con dos puntos de interés como son los Arcos de los Blanco y la muralla de Cádiz.</div><p>

### Arco de Los Blanco
<div class="text-justify">El arco de los Blanco es un vestigio de una antigua puerta a la ciudad romana de Cádiz. A lo largo de los siglos ha sufrido varias modificaciones, siendo la más llamativa la construcción de una bóveda sobre uno de sus arcos en forma de capilla en honor a la virgen de los Remedios. Pero esta bóveda en la actualidad ya no existe.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Como toda ciudad medieval no estaba exenta de intentos de invasión, por lo que a lo largo de la ciudad de Cádiz podemos encontrarnos con parte de la muralla que protegía a la ciudad. En este caso, yo pude fotografiar la parte de la muralla contigua al arco de los Blanco y del teatro romano. Esta muralla hace esquina con la entrada a la plaza del ayuntamiento o plaza de San Juan de Dios.</div><p>

### Plaza de San Juan de Dios

<div class="text-justify">Es una plaza muy bonita, con muchas palmeras para poder resguardarse del sol y el calor que suele hacer en verano. En los alrededores hay múltiples terrazas para poder degustar de un refresco, café o comer algo si hay hambre. En la zona central de la plaza se encuentra la estatua en honor a Segismundo Moret que fue un literato y político de finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX. En esta plaza, también se encuentra el ayuntamiento de la ciudad.</div><p>

### Torre Tavira

<div class="text-justify">Tras estas visitas en el casco antiguo camine durante 10-15 minutos y me desplace a la Torre Tavira que era un de los puntos más altos de la ciudad y servía como torre de vigilancia. En la actualidad es un reclamo turístico debido a que alberga la cámara oscura, dos salas de exposiciones y un mirador, desde el cual puede admirarse todo el casco histórico de la ciudad.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Para terminar mi vista al centro histórico, pero no mi vista a la ciudad de la que me desplazaba de nuevo al parking, me detuve en una preciosa plaza donde hay varios puestos de venta de flores que le da a la ciudad un aroma especial.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Una vez llegué al parking del Campo del Sur, me dirigí a otra zona de la ciudad donde se albergan tres puntos de interés. Aparque mi coche en el Aparcamiento El Tenis, cerca del parador nacional y a unos 5 minutos andando llegué a las inmediaciones de la playa de la Caleta. La playa estaba hermosa y desde allí pude fotografiar al Castillo de San Sebastián y posteriormente me acerqué al Castillo de Santa Catalina para hacer unas bonitas fotografías.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">La playa de la Caleta se sitúa en pleno casco antiguo de Cádiz. Está flanqueada al margen izquierdo por el Castillo de San Sebastián y al flanco derecho por el Castillo de Santa Catalina. Esta playa fue puerto fenicio junto al canal que separaba en aquella época las dos islas que confirman la actual Cádiz, según la información disponible en un cartel turístico en las inmediaciones de la playa.</div><p>

### Castillo de San Sebastián
<div class="text-justify">El castillo de San Sebastián se encuentra en el flanco izquierdo de la playa de la Caleta. Para su acceso se debe atravesar la puerta de la Caleta y a través del el puente canal se puede acceder al islote donde está situado este castillo que fue una de las barreras defensivas de la ciudad en siglos pasados. En la actualidad, en su interior existe un laboratorio de investigación oceanográfica.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">El castillo de Santa Catalina se encuentra en el flanco derecho de la playa de la Caleta. Presenta una estructura llamativa en forma pentagonal cuando según la información existe en la entrada. Debido a que el acceso estaba restringido, solo pude sacar unas fotos desde afuera de esta antigua fortificación.</div><p>

<div class="text-justify">Una vez culminado mi tour turístico me fui a cenar al hotel y descansar para poder trabajar el día siguiente. Este recorrido turístico lo pude realizar en 3 horas aproximadamente, pero recomiendo hacer este tour en la mañana para tener menos calor y poder encontrarse el teatro romano abierto y también las visitas a los castillos de Santa Catalina y de San Sebastián.</div><p>

Cuando es por motivos laborales o de formación, como veo que es tu caso, los viajes no son lo mismo. Me alegro de que logres sacar un rato para conocer los lugares que visitas. 
Durante unos años yo también me moví mucho por España, pero apenas veía nada de ninguna parte, y da mucha rabia.
