Practice for the run and testing the Fujinon 50mm f2

Last weekend, when in Romania the weather was consistent with the actual damn season, meaning it was still spring, before the nuclear winter that came after, I had my brother visiting me. He is a bicycle junkie. He came from Bucharest to my area, a 70 Km run, with his bike. Then he wanted to do some hill runs, practicing for some competition that is bound to take place.

Well, I took the opportunity to test the new Fujinon 50mm f2, a miniaturized version of the bulky monster Fujinon 56mm f1.2. Shooting with it was a breeze, speed is uncomparable with its bigger fast-aperture brother. Also, the size is not a turn-off anymore, quite small for the focal range, weight is perfect and well balanced on the small Fuji XT10. The only drawback is my XT10's continuous focus and burst capabilities, which failed me at some shots. For that matter, an XT2 would have reached a 90% accurately focused shots.

Overall it was a pleasent experience, and at its price tag, the lens is a no-brainer for casual portraiture, general photography.

Hey Catalin :) There are some photographers who claim that the newer 35mm and 50mm f/2 from Fuji are superior to the old ones. I don't know if they are right, all photos of your brother look great to me :)

Had the 35mm f2 and the f1.4 version. There's a magic in the 1.4 version that nothing can replace it, unfortunately. But definitely yes when it comes to size, weight, speed and price. Basically, you are losing 2 stops and, indeed, a certain feel and look of the photos. But if you pixel peep, there's no real difference in image quality. :) Thanks, man!
