The irreplaceable role of a mother in the development of a child has been under the microscope for years, so much so, that many think that it is just enough to bring up a child even without the active interference of the father in the upbringing of the child. Many times, mostly in Nigerian families and other African countries as a whole, the role of fathers in the upbringing of their ward has been greatly underemphasized and overlooked. The job of bringing up the child then becomes solely the responsibility of the mother. 
The boy child especially needs the guidance of a father in his everyday living because as a boy, there will be many experiences you get that you will feel the woman will find it difficult to understand but the fathers who have passed through that stage at a point in time will be able to relate better and also offer possible advice and counsel.

I will be analyzing the role of the father in the development of the child;

**A Role Model:**  The first set of persons that influences the life of any child is their immediate family, be it negative or positive influence. If the children do not get to learn the right morals and values from their parents, then they tend to be influenced by the society and their peers.

**Discipline**: an over pampered child will in the long wrong become a liability/problem to his/herself, the family and the society where they find themselves as a whole.

**Catering for the child’s financial needs:** now we are onto the point that most persons take as the only responsibility if the father in the growth of his child. It is the primary responsibility of the father to ensure that his family is well catered for; the father must be able to provide the child with the basic amenities that is required/essential for their growth. These basic amenities will include food, clothes, shelter and even education. Any child who is provided with all these basic bust very important amenities has every tendency of becoming well groomed and well nurtured. 

Money is good, as a matter of fact it is important for the development of family, but amidst the pursuit of money; invest in your children. You do not just invest by sending them to school and all that; you invest by giving them the right kind of tutelage required to the moral growth.
