<h4>Un motivo de inquietud para los pensadores de todos los tiempos es la existencia del mundo mental. Hasta los más reacios han tenido que aceptar la existencia de esas formas invisibles que se forman en nuestro interior. Sin embargo, explicar de dónde surgen o si hay alguna correspondencia entre el mundo mental y la realidad exterior, percibida a través de nuestro sistema sensorial, ha sido de una gran dificultad.</h4>

<p>Una explicación sobre el tema nos viene de un personaje que ha tenido gran influencia en nuestro sistema de creencias, René Descartes (1596-1650). Este gran filósofo francés resolvió el problema atendiendo a lo que le dictó el sentido común, estableció una división entre el adentro y el afuera, colocó por un lado el mundo material y por el otro el de las ideas.</p>

<h1 class="has-text-align-center">Se crea la dualidad MATERIA- MENTE</h1>

<p>A partir de ese momento la creación de la dualidad materia-mente marcó la forma de pensar de generaciones de seres humanos hasta el momento presente. Entre las primeras consecuencias de la dicotomía cartesiana está la separación radical de los campos de estudio. La ciencia se ocuparía de aquella parte de la realidad correspondiente al mundo sensible, lo que se pudiera observar, ver y tocar. Por su parte, el estudio del pensamiento y las ideas quedaba fuera del ámbito de la ciencia, permanecería relegado al mundo de la religión.</p>

<p>De igual modo con la formulación cartesiana se echaron las bases para establecer principios de legitimidad que perduran en nuestros días. En manos de las ciencias físicas y sus métodos de trabajo quedaron los criterios de veracidad y validación. Solo aquellos conocimientos producidos desde sus perspectivas se acreditarían como verdaderos. El resto del conocer, creado al margen de aquellos procedimientos, es tachado de especulación, carente de rigurosidad y, por tanto, de dudoso valor.</p>

<h4>A partir de Descartes se fue desarrollando la idea de un universo cognoscible, que podía ser totalmente expuesto a los ojos de los hombres. El gran reto de la ciencia sería des-cubrir las leyes que explicaban el funcionamiento de aquella máquina monumental.</h4>

<p>Allí, el papel del hombre era poco menos que irrelevante, su existencia estaba determinada por unas leyes de carácter general. No podía imaginar Descartes que unos siglos después el ser humano habría desarrollado tal conocimiento del Universo como para hacer desaparecer de él una pequeñísima parte llamada Tierra.</p>
