Hey Hive Gaming! I'm back after a week lost with another powerful post, this time to talk a bit about the horror and suspense in a wonderful game that came out recently and whose trailer was presented by none other than Guillermo del Toro himself, and after playing it, I feel it totally deserves the mention of such an award-winning film director. So, next I'll talk about Signalis, the futuristic Silent Hill with automatons.

This game has different sections, story, atmosphere, sound, graphics, gameplay, difficulty... And it stands out in absolutely all of them, it is practically incredible, but to talk about it I must go part by part, because it is something complex to explain.
Signalis starts simply without any explanation, we appear on a ship with our character and we must find out what happened and how to get out of there. When we get out of the ship the first thing we find is that it is totally abandoned and suffered a crash, in which all the crew members died, that despite the fact that no bodies are found, there is a lot of evidence throughout the ship that there was a crew, along with notes from the crew members and so on.

To get out we must solve a puzzle to finally get a suit to go outside with and finally get out of the tutorial and get to the important stage of the game. I must say that for a tutorial, it is simply amazing from the first moment, and the game achieves something that I had never seen in another indie in my life, and that is the fact of combining 2D scenarios and 3D scenarios, combining the best of both to solve many puzzles and investigate entire scenarios and even managing to blend seamlessly with the pixel art that makes this game unique.
The puzzles are one of the most original sections of the game, and although they are not stupidly complex, they are simply unique. You can find different ones in each area of the game, which make you have to explore the ENTIRE map to advance without missing a single area, making perfect use of the environment.

One of the types of Puzzles that I find MOST ingenious, are those in which you must decipher keys with frequencies. At a certain point in the game, you receive an object with which you can start listening to radio frequencies, and with the correct codes, you can start deciphering keys to access different safes, as well as using the radio frequency to access certain areas.

Already leaving the subject of the puzzles, it is necessary to speak of the atmosphere SO FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE AND IMMERSIVE that Signalis has. The resource that stands out the most is the fact of presenting a disturbing silence in dark and desolate scenarios, and at the moment of entering a combat, the sounds become extremely murky, terrifying and gloomy, mixed with the screams of the enemies, and then at the moment of finishing the combat, return to total silence.
This is a resource that is used in many horror games, but Signalis and Silent Hill have been the games that for me, have used it best to create the most incredible sense of terror and suspense. The scenarios are so empty and desolate that cause a unique uneasiness at the time of playing, and feel practically like liminal spaces, lifeless, but with the feeling that there is something there that you just don't know what it is, but it causes you fear.

I'd like to touch on the story, but I feel it's something you should experience yourself playing it, since I feel it will lose the magic if I tell you, but I can assure you that the story is incredibly interesting, and makes you even take the time to analyze the scenarios and the notes you get, because absolutely everything you see in the environment can tell you something about what's going on, and helps you better understand where you are and why you're there.

The dark tones, the low lighting and each and every one of the objects that appear on screen, it seems that they are placed with the greatest detail that you can have in a scenario in a game of this genre, I find it incredible all that Signalis manages to do excellently, and practically get to make a Silent Hill in 2D and that it comes out fucking perfect, with its own essence.

The combat in Signalis is completely strategic and stressful, due to the fact that ammunition is TOTALLY scarce, and you practically have to find a way to skip the enemies in certain areas without killing them, because later when you have to kill one that won't let you advance, you won't have ammunition, and the best option will always be to shoot him a couple of times and kick them on the ground, or use one of the disposable stun guns that you get around the map (which you can use very few times).
The constant stress in combat comes at the moment when the sounds go from total silence, to screams and terrifying sounds that make you totally nervous. And the sounds are not the only stressful thing, because this game has a somewhat negative point although it also adds some difficulty, and is that the inventory is TOO small, you can practically only carry a couple of ammunition, and when you get to the point where you have more than one weapon, you should practically think about what is better to carry, and even have to leave the healing to carry weapons, ammunition, objects and keys needed to advance the area.

Even if you're not much into horror games, I HIGHLY recommend signalis, as it's not your average horror experience, but focuses more on setting and suspense, and not putting screamers on screen to temporarily scare you. The fear of the unknown is built little by little throughout the game, and Signalis doesn't seek to scare you, it seeks to make you feel uncomfortable and that's what I find so unique, it just reminded me of the first time I played Silent Hill 3 and I really recommend both games A LOT to anyone who is eager to immerse themselves in a gripping and disturbing world, and is looking for an indie experience that they've never had before.

Hey Hive Gaming! Vuelvo después de una semana perdido con otro post potente, esta vez a hablar un poco del terror y el suspenso en un maravilloso juego que salió hace poco y cuyo trailer fue presentado por nada más y nada menos que el mismísimo Guillermo del Toro, y después de jugarlo, siento que se merece totalmente la mención de un director de cine tan galardonado. Así que, a continuación hablaré sobre Signalis, el Silent Hill futurista con autómatas.

Este juego tiene distintos apartados, historia, ambientación, sonido, gráficos, jugabilidad, dificultad... Y destaca en absolutamente todos, es prácticamente increíble, pero para hablar de él debo ir parte por parte, porque es algo complejo de explicar.
Signalis empieza simplemente sin explicación alguna, aparecemos en una nave con nuestro personaje y debemos averiguar qué ocurrió y cómo salir de ahí. Al salir de la nave lo primero que nos encontramos es que está totalmente abandonada y sufrió un choque, en el que murieron todos los tripulantes, que a pesar de que no se encuentren cuerpos, hay muchas pruebas por toda la nave de que había una tripulación, junto con notas de los tripulantes y demás.

Para salir debemos resolver un puzzle para finalmente conseguir un traje con el que salir al exterior y finalmente salir del tutorial y llegar a la etapa importante del juego. Debo decir que para ser un tutorial, es simplemente increíble desde el primer momento, y el juego logra algo que nunca había visto en otro indie en mi vida, y es el hecho de combinar escenarios 2D y escenarios 3D, combinando lo mejor de ambos para resolver muchos puzzles e investigar escenarios enteros y logrando incluso mezclarse de manera perfecta con el pixel art que hace único a este juego.
Los puzzles son uno de los apartados más originales del juego, que a pesar de que no son estúpidamente complejos, son simplemente únicos. Podrás encontrar distintos en cada zona del juego, que hacen que tengas que explorar TODO el mapa para poder avanzar sin perderte ni una sola zona, aprovechando perfectamente el entorno.

Uno de los tipos de Puzzles que me parecen MÁS ingeniosos, son en los que debes descifrar claves con las frecuencias. Llegado a un cierto punto del juego, recibes un objeto con el que puedes empezar a escuchar frecuencias de radio, y con los códigos correctos, puedes empezar a descifrar claves para acceder a distintas cajas fuertes, así como usar la frecuencia de radio para acceder a ciertas zonas.

Ya saliendo del tema de los puzzles, se tiene que hablar de la ambientación TAN JODIDAMENTE INCREÍBLE E INMERSIVA que tiene Signalis. El recurso que más destaca es el hecho de presentar un silencio inquietante en escenarios oscuros y desolados, y al momento de entrar en un combate, los sonidos se vuelven extremadamente turbios, aterradores y tétricos, mezclado con los gritos de los enemigos, para luego en el momento de acabar el combate, volver al silencio total.
Este es un recurso que se utiliza en muchos juegos de terror, pero Signalis y Silent Hill han sido los juegos que para mí, lo han utilizado mejor para crear la sensación de terror y suspenso más increíble. Los escenarios son tan vacíos y desolados que causan una inquietud única al momento de jugar, y se sienten prácticamente como espacios liminales, sin vida, pero con la sensación de que hay algo ahí que simplemente no sabes lo que es, pero te causa miedo.

Quisiera tocar el tema de la historia, pero siento que es algo que deberían experimentar ustedes mismos jugándolo, dado que siento que va a perder la magia si les cuento, pero les puedo asegurar que la historia es increíblemente interesante, y hace que incluso te tomes el tiempo de analizar los escenarios y las notas que consigues, porque absolutamente todo lo que ves en el ambiente te puede contar algo sobre lo que está ocurriendo, y te ayuda a entender mejor en dónde estás y por qué estás ahí.
Los tonos oscuros, la baja iluminación y todos y cada uno de los objetos que aparecen en pantalla, parece que están puestos con el mayor detalle que se puede tener en un escenario en un juego de este género, me parece increíble todo lo que logra hacer Signalis excelentemente, y prácticamente conseguir hacer un Silent Hill en 2D y que salga jodidamente perfecto, con su propia esencia.

El combate en Signalis es completamente estratégico y estresante, por el hecho de que, la munición es TOTALMENTE escaza, y prácticamente debes conseguir la manera de saltarte los enemigos de ciertas zonas sin matarlos, porque después cuando tengas que matar a alguno que no te deje avanzar, pues no tendrás municiones, y la mejor opción siempre será dispararle un par de veces y patearlos en el suelo, o usar alguna de las armas aturdidoras desechables que consigas por el mapa (Que podrás usar muy pocas veces).
El estrés constante en los combates llega en el momento en el que los sonidos pasan de un silencio total, a gritos y sonidos aterradores que te ponen totalmente nervioso. Y los sonidos no son lo único estresante, pues este juego tiene un punto algo negativo aunque le añada algo de dificultad igualmente, y es que el inventario es DEMASIADO pequeño, prácticamente solo puedes llevar un par de municiones, y cuando llegues al punto en el que tengas más de un arma, prácticamente deberás pensar qué te conviene más llevar, e incluso tener que dejar las curaciones por llevar las armas, municiones, objetos y llaves necesarias para poder avanzar de zona.

Aunque no te gusten mucho los juegos de terror, recomiendo MUCHÍSIMO signalis, ya que no es la experiencia común de terror, sino que se centra más en la ambientación y suspenso, y no en poner screamers en pantalla para asustarte temporalmente. El miedo a lo desconocido se construye poco a poco a lo largo del juego, y Signalis no busca asustarte, busca que te sientas incómodo y es lo que me parece tan único, solo me recordó a la primera vez que jugué Silent Hill 3 y de verdad recomiendo ambos juegos UN MONTÓN a cualquier persona que tenga ganas de sumergirse en un mundo atrapante e inquietante, y esté en busca de una experiencia indie que jamás haya vivido antes.

I don't really like horror games, but I can play thrillers. The screenshots don't look too scary, they're just a bit creepy. I'm sure there are a lot of people in our community who have played this game and those who haven't will like it when they see it.

Y el hecho de que lo logre esto en la época actual, sin necesitar un estilo visual super realista, es de aplaudir. El ambiente creppy que logra crear en algunas situaciones es muy bueno.
