The documentary tries to explain, through art, the consequences of climate change, it is the strategy of Leonardo DiCaprio in Before the sea is late (before the flood). Using the painting The Garden of Delights, by the Dutch painter known as Bosch, the Oscar winner shows his vision of what society faces. "Climate change is real and it is happening now," the actor had announced in his speech when he received the most coveted statuette in Hollywood on February 28 this year.

The garden of the delights is a triptych, a painting made on three connected slats that allow to fold the two lateral ones on the one of the center. In the left panel we see Eden with Adam and Eve, flying birds, animals and natural environment, all with a great religious connotation about the origin of man. The central part has an allusion to the capital sins, the overpopulation and the excesses of man. The third part of the work is the reference to sin and the decadence of paradise: an apocalyptic image. Seeing it like that, I might think it's the before, the now and the after that DiCaprio and his documentary look for in the hope of changing.

With old images of experts, the documentary shows that climate change is a problem that has plagued the world for many years. It also denounces companies and politicians (among them the new president of the United States, Donald Trump), accusing them of refusing to accept what is happening in the world.

Production, with its collection of opinions of politicians, scientists and religious, leaves as a reflection a call to do something for the planet before it really is too late. It even raises solutions such as changing the way we live, certain products that we consume, the elements we buy and even the politician we choose.

Before the flood shows that informing empowers, the power of change. The great drawback: humanity needs to unite to help with this cause. As at the beginning of the documentary, when the "messenger of peace" tells his anecdote about The Garden of Earthly Delights, one can understand the message that DiCaprio sends through the work.

The closed picture is the perspective of Bosch on the third day of the creation of the Earth, and shows the fragility and subtle layer that covers it. The exterior of the work is a before us and the inside is us. The documentary and the play summarize the same mission: to realize how beautiful the Earth is without all the damage we have caused and ask ourselves if we will be able to change course.
