Hi friends, I am happy to have found this beautiful community thanks to a post by @tibaire, who made a few days ago an amigurumi of a chef that looked fantastic, this encouraged me to join and share my experience knitting a beautiful scarf.

This post means a lot to me because it allowed me back to beautiful memories with my mother, a professional knitter. She had a whole suitcase full of knitting tools. Every time I saw her knitting, she looked like a spider with incredible skill and speed. A lot of winter clothes from my childhood and youth were knitted for me by her. The funny thing about children is that sometimes we don't have the maturity or the vision to take the time to learn the wonderful skills of our parents. It is in their absence that we value them. I would have loved to have acquired some of those skills for my mother's knitting, but at that time I had other interests.

Ella tenía toda una maleta llena de herramientas para tejer. Cada vez que la veía tejiendo parecía una araña con una habilidad y rapidez increíble. Mucha ropa de invierno de mi niñez y juventud me la tejió ella. Lo curioso de los hijos es que a veces no tenemos la madurez o la visión para tomarnos un tiempo y aprender las habilidades tan maravillosas de nuestros padres, es en su ausencia que las valoramos. Me hubiese encantado adquirir parte de esas habilidades para el tejido de mi madre pero en ese entonces yo tenía otros intereses.
This year the winter is intense, the temperatures have dropped a lot, so I thought about buying some chunky scarves but stopped to think that it would be wonderful to put into practice those basic stitches I learned in my childhood. So I ask you to be indulgent with me as this is my first time knitting after almost forty years 😂😂😂😂, but as they say over there knitting is like learning to ride a bike, you just have to practice and the memories of what you learned magically come back to you.
This scarf does not have a lot of technique in its knitting stitches. I am an apprentice with little practice, but what I did have clear before I started knitting, I wanted to make a scarf that was quite warm, so I made it combining right and purl stitches, achieving a scarf with a ribbed design. I knitted the stitches with a bit of looseness because this would give me a flexible scarf to surround my neck and protect my throat and ears from this intense cold.
>Este año el invierno está muy fuerte, las temperaturas han bajado mucho así que pensé en comprar algunas bufandas gruesas pero me detuve a pensar que sería maravilloso poner en práctica aquellos puntos básicos que aprendí en mi niñez. Así que les pido sean indulgentes conmigo ya que es primera vez que tejo después de casi cuarenta años 😂😂😂, pero como dicen por allí tejer es como aprender a montar bicicleta, solo debes practicar y los recuerdos de lo aprendido regresan mágicamente a tí.

Esta bufanda no tiene mucha técnica en sus puntos de tejido ya que soy una aprendiz con poca práctica, pero lo que si tenía claro antes de empezar a tejer es que quería realizar una bufanda que abrigara bastante así que la elaboré combinando puntos al derecho y al revés logrando una bufanda con un diseño acanalado. Al tejer realicé los puntos con un poco de soltura ya que esto me brindaría una bufanda flexible para bordear mi cuello y proteger mi garganta y oídos de este frío tan intenso.
To make this scarf, I used 7 millimeters thick sticks.
The first step to start knitting this scarf is to make the basic stitches on the knitting stick. In my design, the base for my scarf was 35 stitches because to achieve a nice ribbed design, I would intersperse 3 purl stitches and 5 purl stitches, and then in the second round, this combination would change to 3 purl stitches and 5 purl stitches. I will explain this in more detail at a later time. Let's see how to place the starting stitches on the toothpick:
>Para realizar esta bufanda utilicé palillos de 7 milímetros de grosor.
El primer paso para empezar a tejer esta bufanda es realizar los puntos básicos en el palillo de tejer. En mi diseño la base para mi bufanda fue de 35 puntos ya que para lograr un lindo acanalado intercalaré 3 puntos al revés y 5 puntos al derecho y luego en la segunda vuelta esta combinación cambiaría por 3 puntos al derecho y 5 puntos al revés, pero esto lo vor a explicar con más detalle más adelante. Vamos a ver cómo se colocan los puntos de inicio en el palillo:
Pick up the yarn with your left hand (if you are left-handed use the opposite hand) using your thumb and index finger. Place the stick in the center of the strip, making sure that the wool is on the weaving stick, and then follow step by step the indications of the images.
>Toma la lana con la mano izquierda (si eres zurdo usa la mano contraria) usando los dedos pulgar e índice. Coloca el palillo en el centro de la tira asegurándote que la lana quede sobre el palo de tejer y luego sigue paso a paso las indicaciones de las imágenes.
To knit the right side of the stitch you should always loop the stitch through the front, take the yarn at the back and bring it forward. Don´t pull the yarn too tight, so that the stitch remains flexible.
>Para realizar el punto derecho debes siempre enlazar por la parte de adelante el punto y tomar la lana que está en la parte posterior y traerlo hacia adelante, No apretar mucho la lana para que el punto quede flexible.
To make the purl stitch take the stitch through the back of the knitting stick and slide the knitting stick forward. Loop the strip of yarn and then slide it through the center of the stitch to the back. The stitch will be well executed when you see a sort of small knot at the base of the new stitch you made. Try not to tighten the yarn too much so that the knitting remains flexible.
>Para hacer el punto revés toma el punto por la parte posterior del palillo de tejer y desliza el palillo hacia adelante. Enlaza la tira de lana y luego desplázala por el centro del punto hacia la parte de atrás. El punto estará bien ejecutado cuando observes una especie de nudo pequeño en la base del punto nuevo que hiciste. Trata de no apretar mucho la lana para que el tejido quede flexible.
<center><strong>To close the scarf / Para cerrar la bufanda</strong></center>
Take the first stitch of the row and leave it free without knitting, then proceed to take with the knitting stick the second stitch and very carefully replace the stick holding the first two stitches with a crochet hook. Loop a segment of yarn and pass through the second and first stitch until only a single stitch remains. Pick up another stitch from the other end and repeat the procedure until you reach the last stitch of the row. Cut off the excess yarn pass the end of the yarn through the loop of the last stitch, and pull tightly until a knot is formed and the scarf is closed.
>Toma el primer punto de la hilera y déjalo libre sin tejer, luego procede a tomar con el palillo de tejer el segundo punto y con mucho cuidado sustituye el palillo que sostiene los dos primeros puntos por un ganchillo de crochet. Enlaza un segmento de lana y pasa por el segundo y primer punto hasta que solo quede un único punto. Vuelve a tomar otro punto del otro extremo y vuelve a repetir el procedimiento hasta llegar hasta el último punto de la hilera. Corta la lana sobrante y pasa el extremo de la lana por el bucle del último punto y tira con fuerza hasta formar un nudo y así queda cerrada la bufanda.
<center><strong>To place the bangs / Para colocar los flecos</strong></center>
The bangs are those ornaments that hang at the end of the scarf. You can make them with the same color of the wool of the scarf, or you can use other matching colors and give it a different touch. Cut several strips of wool of the same size. I cut them 26 centimeters long.
>Los flecos son esos adornos que cuelgan al final de la bufanda. Los puedes hacer con el mismo color de la lana de la bufanda o puedes usar otros colores que combinen y darle un toque diferente. Corta varias tiras de lana del mismo tamaño. Yo las corté de 26 centímetros de largo.
To make the bangs, we need a crochet hook number 000, and we put it through the first hole formed by the stitch on the edge of the scarf, and we take three strips of wool and pass it through the hole, pull and form a loop and pass through the center of it all the ends of the wool. Pull firmly until a knot is formed and all the bangs are uniform. To give it a nice finish, take each strip of wool and tie a knot at the end so that it does not fray with use.
>Para hacer los flecos necesitamos un ganchillo de crochet número 000 y lo metemos por el primer agujero formado por el punto en el borde la bufanda y tomamos tres tiras de lana y la pasamos a través del agujero, jalamos y formamos un bucle y pasa por el centro de éste todos los extremos de la lana. Tira firmemente hasta formar un nudo, que queden todos los flecos uniformes. Para darle una bonita terminación toma cada tira de lana y hazle un nudo en el extremo para que no se deshilache con el uso.
I am very happy to have finished this scarf, however, I have to buy more yarn since at first, this scarf was for me, but my son fell in love with it and wants it for him...hehehehe it's time to knit another one 🤣🤣🤣🤣
