After writing my earlier post today I had a friend call me about it, in his eyes I was probably not doing the best of jobs explaining my point. In an effort to clarify my views, and possibly help others who might have gotten the wrong Idea, I decided to elaborate a little more on the subject.

There are no doubt professionals that can help us improve or even get better. We might have a subconscious bias against going to see a professional on the field of mental health, but that might be self defeating idea to hold. There are times where it might be absolutely necessary to seek help outside of ourselves.

If we were talking about a vehicle, and we believed that it was having issues. We would also know, that the best solution could be given by a knowledgeable honest mechanic. I’m hesitant to speak in absolutes, because not all mechanics are great or honest, but I digress.

In the case of a situation where it’s gotten out of control, where an engine would be burning oil, or worse. We would not attempt to talk about taking to car to be washed or detailed. That would make absolutely no sense, and just thinking it, sounds comical. The difference would be that we don’t really believe that cars will fix themselves, because if they don’t that means there are unworthy cars.

That might be the confusion on the subject. Sometimes we have these ideas that if we go see a therapist, or a psychiatrist we are admitting weakness or unworthiness. I ask you, is that logical? Is that fair to ourselves? I happen to believe it simply can’t.

In this quick analogy I’m trying to present, the car washing might be the equivalent of the charlatans, of the fake “truth sellers” that tell you that you don’t need to actually fix the car, you need to wash it, pay good money for a good wash, but just wash it.

If my previous words were construed as if I was invalidating a professional in the field of mental health, I apologize. I was specifically talking about the fakes and the charlatans.
