The minimal lifestyle, is so far the best kind of life one can ever live. I agree completely with you  that minimalism can reduce mental depression. Living without  carrying matters that are heavier than you would would save you from a lot of thoughts that could eventually lead to depression. Imagine you put yourself under pressure to get a car within one month when you know fully your current earning can't afford it. Won't that weigh you down as each day passes by and you realize you can't fulfilled that desire?  

Of a truth you can't compel anyone to be a minimalist it is a choice, though that choice can be influenced by seeing the results of those whose life are examples of minimalism.

A decluttered physical space often results in a decluttered mental space. I think a minimalist lifestyle is the way to go anyway anytime. I have very few things in my possession in school, some people say it is sapa😂, while the Sapa is still somewhere around the corner,  my minimalist lifestyle is still very rewarding. I luckily have a room all to myself in the hostel and there's not in inside except a bed, two rucksacks with a kettle. The space makes studying much better.
