We now live in a corporate-run world where instead of doing actual functional tasks that produce wealth based on physical labour or mental capacity we sit wasting valuable time in meetings, creating reports, filing documents and processing paperwork. Because we live in a world of artificial intelligence, artificial money, artificial goods and services, it's no surprise that most of our work is also artificial and superficial. 

Since we trade our time for money, we see any time spent as "constructive" even when it's not. Sitting your bum in a seat for 8 hours a day is seen as productivity.  We often see arguments break out in the corporate world as people don't need to be productive or pull their weight, be it doing the minimum or working overtime you receive the same rewards and as a collective create enough value for the company. 

What makes this even stranger is that we're now in an economy where [stock buybacks](https://steemit.com/money/@chekohler/why-companies-aren-t-as-valuable-as-you-think) are it's higher and so is the corporate debt which proves that the work many are doing isn't worth the cost they are being paid. But really who is going to admit they are being overpaid?

## Awful admin

I see so many people thinking they are the cat's pyjamas because they are glorified paper pushers. It's given them a false sense of value with an inflated paycheque as they uniquely poised in their safe little corporate bubble without actually knowing what it's like to create value.

So many employees are now starting to realise how much time they waste on admin and how little productive capacity is being used. This is not just detrimental to the company but to people as they are not spending their time improving current skills or learning new ones. They are merely being kept busy to meet employment targets and other corporate agendas. 

## AI will be Admins first victim

The unfortunate part of all of this is that as AI is moved into large companies who are looking to cut costs and achieve scale these admin tasks will become automated, now taking away from these workers and while we may think that this will leave them with more time to be productive it may not be the case. It may leave people out of a job with no skills valued by the market, which could leave a large portion of the market destitute. 

## If you are in an admin job right now

If you are currently in a paper-pushing job, I will encourage you to use the time to upskill in another area. Take some online courses, use the weekend to learn new skills, start a side business and persue a passion. 

You are working on borrowed time, and it will be a case of adapt or die.
