Hi, welcome to this post, as you can tell from the title, we are exploring one of the biggest Hype Token in the Blockchain Gaming world, if I had another way of putting it? Let China sleep, for when she wakes she would shake the world!.
According to Splinterlands, SPS - Splinter Shards is a **soon-to-be(Or Is?)** governance tool in splinterlands blockchain game that would dictate a lot of power among players and in-game economy. In reality, the value of a token increases in proportion to the value attached to it, in that case - **SPS is at the hilt of a prime use case that would increase its value triple folds, who knows, 100 folds?**
## Why Beginners are Late to the Party, Except for Whales
For more than 3 months, players of Splinterlands can mine, collect, or airdrop SPS for free, **completely free**. Way back, there was no real value of SPS, people just collected it, with wishful thinking for when a value would arise. I'm surprised at how SPS has managed to maintain a good price of $0.35 even before a use case was attached to it[As seen just two weeks ago]. I mean, there are more popular coins that can't even reach the SPS market price after having considerable use cases attached to them.
Back to my main point though, Beginners to Splinterlands are well late to the party, with SPS certainly, with other tokens on the Hive blockchain, maybe not(there's still loads of opportunity to take on). You are a beginner if you just started playing Splinterlands in the last 3 months, If a hype use case is announced in favor of SPS any day from now(one has already been announced), you might find urself scratching for ideas to pack yourself a well-deserved share from whatever pool of luck is **being announced, ready to deploy**. A point to consider, of course, is that you're a beginner **who is not a whale** because in that case, you can simply buy as many SPS as needed.
SPS has been freely distributed to players for the past 4 months, it was about 4 months ago when splinterlands announced that an airdrop event that would take place for exactly **365 days would see SPS freely distributed to all registered players** on the basis of their score (calculated by Airdrop points), later we look at how this Airdrop point is calculated and how you can improve your points. But keep this in mind, If you just started playing, free dropping SPS wouldn't save you for the upcoming hype value attached to SPS (yes, there is one). This is a gray area, and I don't have the data to say 100% for sure, but from a community-driven perspective, Most beginners can safely be considered late!
## The Chaos of Legion: Biggest SPS Hype yet
Talk about the long-awaited VALUE of SPS, and you gonna hear Chaos of Legion (presale) being mouthed by everyone. This is certainly going to be massive, for how long, no certainty there, but if Splinterlands official blogs are anything to go by(which they are) - October 18 marks the date for the active upwards drill of value we expect to see from SPS. On that day, Splinterlands plans are to release their latest set of Cards Collection called - Chaos of Legion, **this release date is set to be a presale and would last for exactly one month**. As you can guess, SPS is gonna be directly linked to this Cards purchase - That was honestly the bomb for me.
> If I had to sum it up to you in a few words; On that day Sept 27, I started reading this blog post from Splinterlands announcing Chaos of Legion presale release date (I was lucky to find it, 2 minutes after release) with great excitement, cards they said were going to sell for $ 4, I had everything working for me, Until I did not, before reaching the comments section, I was as gloomy as a kid who just lost their candy. My hopes were crushed, Chaos of Legion was to be the Cards Collection set that marked my ascend to the top, for real this time. In my mind(just like everyone's), **this was going to be the second wave of honey \*that flowed through SPlinterlands!.**

## A quick descriptive summary of what October 18 Holds for Chaos of Legion presale, SPS, and Vouchers:
The presale for the Chaos of Legion cards packs would begin on October 18. Each Card packs would cost $4 - every player can get one card pack for just $4. The presale would last for 30 days, from Oct 18 to November 18, and after that time, the normal card sale would begin. But, what makes it more interesting is that players who purchase any card packs during the 30 days presale would get access to several perks ; (1) a 10 % discount for all packs purchased using SPS (b) an additional 14 unique cards would be airdropped to these set of players in the coming months, and all players are certain of getting ALL of these 14 cards, airdrop at different times. That to my mind means, _**a set of rare cards would be in the hands of a couple of players, I want in on that!.**_
Then comes **vouchers**, as opposed to previous card sales on Splinterlands, you can only purchase packs by having a new currency called VOUCHER in-game, i.e to purchase one pack, you need one voucher, and so on. This new currency can be obtained through airdrops which would last throughout the entire presale range. On each day, there would be a **maximum of 33333 vouchers ready to be airdropped to players**, therefore in 30 days' time, 1 million vouchers would have been distributed. During this airdrop event, you get a portion of these 33333 Vouchers available by simply staking SPS in-game, the amount of SPS staked is correlated to the amount of Voucher you receive in a given day. What can I say? but a strategic plan by the Splinterlands team in the effort to create real balance amongst players. **Everyone CAN get a Voucher, even if not ALL will**. This new Voucher rule is expected to last throughout the normal sale when the presale ends and even beyond that, more so, **better use cases are expected to be attached to SPS in the future.**
The question on everyone's mind is - **How many vouchers can I get in 30 days?** , Can you get 1 voucher every day to purchase 30 packs at the end of 30 days OR can you get 1 voucher **every 5 days** to purchase 6 packs at the end of 30 days? On the face this might seem easy, in fact, it truly is - calculate your resources, aim for the desired, and know where you stand. On the other hand, for beginners like me, PS: with no whale traits, and no resources to re-invest for this presale, I need to start looking around for other options. To excuse any boredom while reading for non- calculations folk, I'm gonna skip explaining the mathematics behind determining how many vouchers you can qualify for based on staked SPS and direct you to this online tool built by @tehox for that exact purpose [VOUCHER CALCULATOR](https://www.splintercards.com/tool-vouchers.html), thanks to him we have such a dedicated tool!
## Staking and Qualifying for Voucher Drops
To qualify for vouchers as per your desire, you need to plan your stakes well. Staking is by far the easiest way to get SPS, (Staking and Improving your Airdrop points that is), Staking is Passive and it can take you half of where you need to be in terms of required SPS for pre desired Voucher (if you get the trail). Before you can begin staking SPS, you need SPS right? (remember the ongoing 365 Airdrop of SPS). Let's consider all the means you can go about this;
**Splinterlands Airdrop Points - How to improve your SPS drop points**
Understanding the different points and factors involved in the calculation of YOUR Airdrop points is important, when I just started playing, I skipped the majority of these factors and only focused on improving my in-game DEC(gotten from battling) amount and SPT amount (earned from blogging). It turns out there are more points to consider, some not too hard to achieve too
- **Collection Power** - The accumulation of all Card collection Power you OWN, it must be owned cards, and not delegated. This counts for 1 point each. i.e, If your collection power is 4000, you get 4000 airdrop points.
- **DEC (Dark Energy Crystal)**- In-game DEC amount and Dec held on external platforms including Steem Engine, Hive Engine, WAX, Tron, BSC, and Ethereum will all still be eligible to receive airdrop tokens without having to send them back into the game. This also counts for 1 point per Dec
- **DEC Liquidity Pools** - Amount of DEC you have staked in a liquidity pool, there are a couple and you can find them on Trade Exchanges with DEC Listed like TribalDex, Hive-Engine, and LeoDex. This counts for 2 points.
- **Card Packs**: In Splinterlands, Card parks can be purchased in the shop when a new Card collection set has been released. This Airdrop point is calculated based on the number of unopened cards packs you have
- **Land Plots**: Not many Beginners know about Lands, perhaps because it isn't talked about as much BUT, lands do exist in Splinterlands, and having them counts towards your collection power even though they are so expensive (so that's something to consider). Land Plots counts for a massive 10000 points, told ya.
- **SPT**: Good ole' SPT, the token of every Blogger on HIVE's dream, or is it LEO? Anyway, the amount of SPT in your hive account also adds to your overall Airdrop points, You can get SPT through Blogging on Splintertalk or you can purchase directly from [Hive-Engine](https://hive-engine.com/)
- **Card Skins**: Card SKins can be purchased from the shop in Splinterlands, skins are used to beautiful Cards and **battle away** from the default skin(this doesn't count towards luck sadly). Card skins vary by quality and therefore the airdrop points. Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary (C/R/E/L) give 1000, 2500, 5000, and 10000 points respectively.
- **Totems**: Totems just like Card Skins in Splinterlands vary by quality, [Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary], and as such the amount of Airdrop points Vary. You get 1000, 5000, 25000, and, 100000 airdrop points respectively for C/R/E/L totems.
Now, you have SPS coming in from the free Airdrop after accumulating some airdrop points, it might be a lot and could serve you well for the upcoming Chaos of Legion presale, or it could still be so little and wouldn't do you any good, for its own sake let's consider some other ways you can obtain SPS(the first being painfully obvious)
- Purchase SPS now if you have the funds. You can purchase SPS at its current market price on Hive-engine, LeoDex.io, and for a slightly higher price (but still a means), on TribalDex. In this case, you would buy SPS on the HIVE/SPS market. i.e you exchange Hive for SPS, the current price of SPS at the time of writing is approx $0.61), and you can always get the latest updated price here [[Coin market cap](https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/splinterlands/)]
- Generate Funds: If you don't have funds to invest immediately, I'ts basic knowledge to consider selling some Splinterlands in-game resources like Cards, packs, lands for example.** Only you can map out what needs to be sold as per requirements**, but this is an option many players would use to get set for the presale. If you don't yet have valuable resources in Splinterlands ;
- I have found that blogging about Splinterlands on the HIVE blockchain is a very profitable way for players and followers of Hive to earn. Not just blogging, upvoting (referred to as curating) other people's content earns you SPT tokens based on your SPT power. All in all, this is a VERY lucrative way for anyone to get set for the upcoming chaos of legion presale, especially beginners. By no means easy, coming up with great posts(and consistently) is not an easy ordeal, but anyone can manage this if you try hard enough. I think that blogging and engaging the hive community is the most balanced way to earn your way up. Essentially, you earn SPT and Hive Tokens which can be converted(i.e exchanged ) into SPS.
The use cases of SPS just got better and are set to take off from there, Chaos of Legion seems to be the catalyst for that. Beginner to Splinterlands or not, **I'm not set to lose out on anything**, that's why I created this post explaining the details and my views on it, hopefully, I have made it easier for beginners to map out a plan for themselves on how to acquire SPS and get prepared for Chaos of Legion(CL).
