Definitive Meeting - "The Great War"

The week following the disastrous first assault on the enemy fortress in France had been hectic, for four men. In the first place, they were all promoted. Having seen action on the frontlines with their men, everyone had realized that they were all better qualified for command than they had originally thought. Second, they had all been tasked with the same mission.

A number of mysterious disappearances of allied forces across the world, mostly from the Pacific theatre, had sparked panic among command. As it turned out, a rogue Japanese General, after a long and distinguished career, had defected to the allies and started sharing his knowledge to the rest of his nation, as well as other interested parties. He had been involved in research that focused on cloning, and was able to create large numbers of clones.

The Japanese Government was less than pleased to hear of this, and having apparently never seen action himself, he had started to act alone. Making use of his extensive knowledge of the human body, he had created an army of clones of various people, many of them of high prestige. These clones were indoctrinated like soldiers, but actually committed atrocities against their own countrymen. Using the knowledge he had gained from this research, he had started to invade America and Europe. These clones were amazingly potent. Each man was now as strong as three men.

A single bullet would not do any damage to them. Existing weapons could not penetrate the new armor they wore as well. Many nations had been on alert for some time, and a number of spies were now in the high levels of all sides in the conflict. The Korean front had turned into complete chaos, as the spies had begun a propaganda effort to turn the populace against their government. The American Military had been troubled with a growing number of mutinies from the ranks. They were trying to maintain order, but the problems were getting worse, as units started to turn on each other. However, the worst was still to come.

The Japanese Commander, General Akimoto, had started to receive some very disturbing information from his spies on United States soil. It was one thing to have spies that were revealing the research and information for you, but it was another to learn that your enemy was actively using it themselves. His men had been losing a great many men to assassins in America. He had already hidden the research as disinformation, but now he was fairly certain it was true.

All the countries had become very interested in what Akimoto was up to. They were well aware of the Americans' response to the Japanese General's betrayal. The conflict had entered years of stalemate. The allies had slowly increased their superiority at sea, with no real improvements on land. All the territory in the Pacific had been claimed by either alliance, with the exception of Alaska. Mexico had become a center of espionage, with the Japanese almost having a stronghold there, as well as their own sizable forces, making it impossible for Mexico to declare its neutrality. Both America and Japan had been sharing intelligence and sharing tactics, but none had been very happy about it. Akimoto's use of the Elite Clone Soldiers had become a cause for concern. Both sides had special forces, as one was needed to fight in that theater of conflict. The Americans had created special forces that could match the Elite Clones, but they had the opposite problem. They simply didn't have enough manpower to truly fight the enemy.

That was why all four officers had been summoned to meet with General Anderson. He called the meeting in a "secure facility" that had been built on Washington, DC, the capital of the United States. The building was essentially a bunker, though it was in the heart of downtown DC. Both sides had spies in their governments, so any meeting that might reveal tactical information would only be done in a grave setting. When they arrived they were shocked by what they saw.

They were lead to the base commander's office, where they were greeted by the General himself. The facility as a whole was very secure. Hardened windows could withstand small arms fire, while the reinforced doors were thick steel and could hold up to tank shells. The office was also very secure. All of the windows could be blocked with steel bars. The door to the office was steel as well. It was also thick enough to stand up to a tank shell. However, it was not sealed. A large, heavy steel plate that was in place on hinges swung out a full twenty feet.

It was large enough to cover most of the office. Behind it was a large, heavy, reinforced steel door. Inside was an armored safe, with a pressure gauge on it, for covering the very sensitive information it held. Anderson gestured for the four men to take a seat. They all had badges with their name on them that looked as if they were copies of the US military's badges, when they were in fact their own design. Anderson sat at his desk, while Lt. General Nakajima sat on the edge of the desk and leaned forward.

The Commander's name was Hiroaki Nakajima, G8 of the Japanese Army. He was fifty years old, with graying hair and gray eyes. He wore the standard army badges and uniforms. He motioned for his men to join him, and they all took a seat. The Commander for the United States, General Emerson Anderson, was a forty-two year old with brown hair and brown eyes. He was in the Air Force.

"Well," General Anderson said to them, gesturing to the steel doors, "do you think they'll give us our space back?"

"I hope so," General Nakajima replied, "we've got some problems to discuss."

"I'm sure we do," the Commander replied, "how is your invasion going?"

General Nakajima stood up and clenched a fist. Behind the others, the steel plate lifted up and a Colonel stepped into the office.

"Sorry to interrupt," he said, "but General Akimoto made contact with the Americans a few hours ago. We wanted you to be the first to know."

"How is that possible?!?" the Agent in the middle asked with a confused look on his face. The Commander sighed.

"We're not sure how," he said with a frown, "the General said that he heard they had cut off his spies. But we know he can't do that, as he has spies working for the Americans. He has also told them about the secrets of the Elite Clone Soldiers. He has cut off supplies to his troops, and we have absolutely no idea why. We've been trying to communicate with him, but he still won't speak to us. The only thing we know for certain is he's breaking the truce and going to war. The General has been ordered to plan his invasion of the US, with General Akimoto as the supreme commander. He will lead the ground troops into the US and capture territory."

"And you want me to help you plan the invasion," General Anderson replied, "You should know my opinion of war. I'm no exception to the way you feel about it. We can coexist peacefully and in equality. You were all planning to attack us, and I won't have the blood of the innocent on my hands. I only agreed to work for you in the first place because I couldn't betray my country by letting you in. I can't believe that you're going to use the knowledge General Akimoto gave you to instead go to war with us. I refuse to help you. If you're going to war, I would like to help the US."

"General," General Nakajima said, frustration in his voice, "we are not at war with the US. If General Akimoto goes to war with the US, it will be the US government that goes to war with us. The people have no idea of what is going on. They've been told that General Akimoto is a traitor, a traitor to your country, a traitor to his own people, and a traitor to the human race. His only reason for being is the research. For all intents and purposes, he would have given up his nation in order to do as he's always done, if he was approached."

"What exactly is General Akimoto doing?" the Commander asked, "We know nothing about what is going on with his clone soldiers. They're not just clones, they're superior clones. It has to be more than mere cloning, because they have almost superhuman powers. General Akimoto has returned, had clones made, trained the new army in secrecy, and brought them in to fight."

"Their powers are not their own," General Nakajima replied, "they were genetically engineered by General Akimoto himself. Their bodies have been built and rebuilt to become superior. The reasons for these gifts are still unknown, but General Akimoto supplies them with strength and agility. They're as strong as a hundred men, able to continuously carry an enormous weight, and able to withstand wounds that would kill normal men. They're genetically engineered to force them to obey the general."

"But the war comes first," General Anderson replied, "we can't go to war with an army that is the equivalent of three times our own. We only have one effective weapon against them. We need to get our forces to the mainland, to fight the enemy. Our soldiers are not in shape for combat after the long oceanic journey. They need considerable time to train to use the weapons, as well as learn the tactics to use in Japan. I don't have enough time, that's why I wanted a place to train. You need to use your forces to gain ground against the Japanese. They cannot keep up with you if you campaign. I would have asked the Koreans for help, but they would only be fighting a war on two fronts."

"General," General Nakajima said, "General Akimoto is planning the invasion. He won't be around to fight. He will use the Elite Clone Soldiers for that."

"That's not good enough," General Anderson replied, "You need to conquer Japanese cities and claim them. With your technology, you could easily do this. There is no need for you to use their weaponry, integrate your own into your forces. Add a simpler design and a larger magazine. That will cut down on weight, and the troops can carry more ammunition. We know how good your vehicles are, so make a longer range vehicle. This is the same concept as our green scheme gave for tanks, yet it would make the Japanese suicidal. By having them drive through buildings they have erected, they would use their own bombs against them. It would create a larger illusion of the Japanese working on a bunker, one which they would never be able to complete. With only three hundred green soldiers, they couldn't hope to complete one. You wouldn't even see Kansai, Kyoto, or Saitama."
