http://i.imgur.com/KM78ZRV.jpg

None of this should be news to anybody but when you sit down and think about what is going on you begin to realize how quickly this world is changing and how much faster things will be completely different from the world we knew yesterday.

In the not so distant future, applications on our phones will eventually be the only way we do everything and anything in our lives. We can already deposit checks through our phones, make payments with our phones, take payments and the list goes on and on.

Aside from the world's first commercial drone food delivery by 7-11 in early July 2016, the very beginning of what will soon be the norm in many industries, here are three examples I have personally seen of humans replaced by a machine.

#1 SUPERMARKETS

Self Check-Out service stations have completely eliminated the need for multiple cashiers at local supermarkets and department stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. You do everything yourself without the need of a dedicated cashier. Just scan and bag your items and swipe your card or insert cash and you're done. You are the shopper and now the cashier, how inconvenient.

#2 MOVIE THEATERS

Now, instead of walking up to an employee behind a window to purchase tickets, many movie theaters have several touch screen monitors where you pick which movie and how many tickets you want. They are dispensed to you with a simple swipe of your finger. No more yelling through a thick paned glass. Wonderful.

#3 BANKS

Certain banking institutions now have virtual tellers assisting you with your banking needs. In place of actual bank tellers you will now walk up to a screen and a vacuum tube where there is no physical face to face interaction. Imagine seeing someone in person. Weird.

The world's a changin' folks. We are surrounded by the most powerful devices we have ever owned in our entire lives, but wait, are our lives our own anymore? What will a world truly be like where every industry is controlled by machines handling things humans once did. That time is now. It's happening. The human species will continue to thrive in a digital world ruled by operating softwares and artificial intelligence and we must accept and embrace this new way of life.

I think we are doing just fine.

I always, always use self checkout and the ATM if I can. Haven't seen automated movie ticket dispensers yet but I'd use them if I could. IMHO the real revolution is when the manufacturing chain is fully automated. That equals self replication... Which in turn means exponential increase in supply and much cheaper prices for consumers. We could even end up with a self replicating robotic fleet to construct a Dyson sphere (Dyson swarm) out of space rocks and solar energy. As far as I can tell, you don't need a superintelligence to do that... It's a human level engineering problem, and the resources are just sitting out there waiting to be converted.

I think with every revolution there coincides adaptation. We've seen many times historically where humans have been replaced by autonomous machines and yet, if we did not adapt to the skill requirements as a result, then probably more and more people would be out of work, which is obviously not the case. Humans are naturally lazy and we tend towards things of the least resistence. That also means without some disruption every now and then, we make no progress as a society. Its all good!
