In the middle of the imposing ensemble around the Victory Column and right next to the Roon Monument stands the impressive Moltke Monument, created by sculptor Joseph Uphues in 1904 in the neo-baroque style.

The monument is made of Lasa marble and depicts the Prussian General Helmuth Graf von Moltke in period uniform. He is leaning against a balustrade, his head is covered by a general's cap and his gaze is resolutely directed forward. Around his neck he wears the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, an award for his services to the unification of Germany. A highly symbolic gesture: his left hand lies over his right, expressing steadfastness and determination.

<h4>The pedestal and the inscription</h4>

The pedestal, also made of Lasa marble, bears the gilded inscription "MOLTKE" and features Art Nouveau elements. The overall height of the statue is an impressive 11 meters and is considered a masterpiece of the Berlin school of sculpture.

The Moltke monument originally stood on the western edge of Königsplatz until it was removed in 1938 as part of the redesign of Berlin under Albert Speer and moved to its current location on Großer Stern in 1939. The base was removed and the plinth shortened to make room for an open decorative wall.

Dabei wurde der Unterbau entfernt und der Sockel verkürzt, um Platz für eine offene Ziermauer zu schaffen.
