Understanding the many kinds of programming languages is crucial in the field of programming. There are currently 500+ different types of programming languages with various syntaxes and semantics. Programming languages have existed in our planet for a very long time. We shall learn about the development of programming languages in this post.

So let's first discuss what a programming language is.

The term "programming language" refers to a language created by a programmer to instruct a computer to carry out a task, such as creating software or a program. It is quite similar to human language, but programming language, also known as machine language, has an incomprehensible word structure that combines form and meaning.

Charles Babbage is credited as being the inventor of computers, but do you know who created the first piece of code? Yes, Ada Lovelace wrote the first piece of code back in 1883, but she is not considered the father of computers.

Ada created the first ever code in history when she created instructions for the analytic engine in order to make Charles' creation of a device in 1883 work because Charles didn't know how to control it.

The "Assembly Language" programming language, which was originally published in 1949, is among the earliest programming languages ever created. This low-level language was specifically created to interface with the computer's hardware. It consists of instructions that can only be understood by computers. Viruses for computers are frequently created using it.

The next in line is Autocode, which was created by Alick Glennie in 1952. It is a form of compiled language that includes COBOL and FORTRAN and was meant to boost the comprehensibility of programming in Mark 1 machines.

The following language, Fortran, was created in 1957 by IBM and John Backus. It is a high level language designed for scientific and numerical computation. Making structures and flying aircraft are only a few applications for fortran.

The next language created was ALGOL, which stands for algorithmic language. It was first defined by a function inside another function, also known as a nested function, and it has a simpler form than Fortran. ALGOL was first introduced in 1958 by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).

The following language was created in 1959 by Grace Hopper and is called COBOL, which stands for Common Business Oriented Language. COBOL is a compiler program that takes computers and changes them into a high level language and then into another program.

The next language is BASIC, which stands for beginner All-purpose symbolic instruction code and was introduced in 1964. a user-friendly high level programming language designed for beginners. This was created specifically to encourage students to utilize computers.

The following language, created in 1972, is C. It is a general-purpose sort of programming language and among the most well-liked ones. It can be applied to the installation of an operating system. All high level programming languages, including C#, JAVA, JAVA Script, and others, are descended from C.

In the realm of programming, there are a lot more languages.
The first programming language to be released was SQL in 1992, followed by MATLAB in 1978, Haskell in 1990, Python the year after, then JAVA, PHP, JavaScript, C#, GO, Kotlin, and Swift the years after that. But as I've already mentioned, there are still a ton of other things that we need to understand in order to become competent programmers.
