El retiro de Chiellini de la Serie A me recuerda al retiro de Alessandro del Piero hace años, quien se fue a jugar a una liga exótica para luego colgar sus botines definitivamente, por lo tanto es casi una despedida del futbol lo que ha hecho Giorgio, quien a sus 37 años dejo la Juve para firmar por los Ángeles FC en la Major League Soccer de los Estados Unidos, una liga llamativa por la cantidad de jugadores europeos que estan allá, pero a fin de cuentas una liga de menor calidad.

El mismo Chiellini ha expresado que el ritmo tanto de la Serie A como de la selección nacional es muy elevado para su edad, y una de las razones de su retiro es que no quiere perjudicar a sus compañeros dentro del campo de juego, una decisión sabia del capitán que ha sabido ganarse el cariño de toda la afición. Jugar en Estados Unidos desde mi punto de vista es una buena forma de poner punto final a su excelente carrera futbolística.

Recordar a Chiellini es recordar la esencia del futbol italiano, su juego en la defensa emula perfectamente el desempeño de un juego defensivo hermoso, el cual es característico de la historia de Italia, pero con tantos cambios en el estilo de futbol actual, me atrevo a decir que Giorgio es uno de esos últimos defensores italianos de la vieja escuela, solo queda Bonucci en lo más alto de la elite, ¿pero por cuanto tiempo estará allí? Quizás uno o dos años más, luego que salga de la Juve se podría decir que se abre paso definitivo a una nueva generación de defensores de Italia, que llevan estilos entremezclados, algo de lo viejo y mucho de lo nuevo, asi que solo nos quedara recordar.

Para definir como fue la carrera de Giorgio tanto en la Juve como en la selección azurra, estas tres palabras pienso que la pueden ejemplificar perfectamente; la primera de ellas es **entrega**, algo que demostró desde sus inicios hasta sus últimos partidos, ningún fanático del futbol en general puede decir que Chiellini era un pecho frio, pues siempre dio lo mejor de sí por su equipo, aun cuando estaban perdiendo la entrega era total, recuerdo aquella desafortunada final contra España en la Eurocopa del 2012 donde fueron vapuleados, unos de los jugadores que se esforzó hasta el pitido final fue Chiellini, dando ejemplo a algunos de sus compañeros más jóvenes de cómo se debía amar la camiseta más allá del resultado. 

La segunda palabra es **solidez**, una de las características de los defensores italianos a traves de la historia es su solvencia en las últimas filas, esto es algo que Chiellini aprendió de los mejores, era suplente cuando jugadores como Cannavaro, Zambrota y el mismo Barzagli defendían la camiseta de la Nationale, una experiencia que sin duda le ayudo a formar su sólido carácter defensivo. Cuando el testigo fue entregado, Chiellini conformo la famosa “BBC”, la cual fue tomando forma al pasar de los años siendo el muro defensivo más sólidos de los últimos tiempos. Si no sabe de quién hablo, me refiero a Barzagli, Bonucci y Chiellini, un trio de defensores que podría jugar a ojos cerrados entre sí, jugadores que aportaron mucha calidad en la defensiva del futbol italiano.

La última palabra es **picardía** y esta no podía faltar, algo que quizás aprendió en sus duelos contra los latinoamericanos quienes son expertos en este aspecto. En ocasiones se podía notar a Chiellini generando faltas estratégicas y a su vez necesarias, recuerdo en la final de la Eurocopa, como sin titubear a cambio de una amarilla jalo a un joven ingles que se podía escapar de forma peligrosa hacia el arco italiano, para muchos fue algo sucio, pero su concentración y resolución de su propio error al perder el balón fue motivo de elogio por grandes técnicos como Mou y también de algunos otros defensores como Sergio Ramos. Pero eso no fue todo, sacarle faltas a los delanteros a quienes marcaba también era otra de sus especialidades, uno que lo sufrió bastante fue Lukaku, el mastodonte belga jamás pudo con la defensa del italiano, y asi como el, otros muchos, incluyendo al centro delantero Harry Kane que también fue anulado.

Más que calidad que todavía la tiene, una de las cosas que más va a aportar Giorgio a su nuevo club es la experiencia, si bien sabemos que por su edad mantener el rápido ritmo del futbol de la MLS no será muy sencillo, porque una de las cosas que tiene esta liga, es que su juego es de transiciones rápidas, su inteligencia dentro de la cancha le ayudara en muchas situaciones. Los defensores de este club tendrán de la mano de Chiellini una experiencia de clase mundial, será como un maestro que les ayudara a mejorar en el entendimiento del juego en la zona defensiva. Pienso que esa ha sido una de las razones por la cual la directiva lo ha fichado, y el mismo Giorgio sabe que ese será su mayor aporte en esta etapa final de su carrera. Por último, no me queda más que desear una buena performance en la MLS, particularmente tratare de ver algunos partidos, asi como lo hice con Pirlo en su momento.
