A lot of people have been on the steem blockchain without knowing the meaning of comment spamming. Even after moving to the hive, the sentence doesn’t ring a bell to them. As a person, I’ve never been blacklisted for such, but still, there are some things I never knew about it until today. I swung into the Hivewatcher for some reason and got the full info of what the term ***“comment spamming”*** means.
Shortly before I copy-paste what I saw from @steencleaner post 2 years ago, let me brush through some things about other social media.
### Is comment spamming addressed on other social media sites?
Honestly, if you asked me this question yesterday, I wouldn’t give you a 50% correct answer. For a very long time, I believed that I could comment as I desire on any post on Facebook, and other social media platforms, but I got to realize that they have measures to curb spamming in their ways.
As of today, one of the platforms I see fighting comment spamming is facebook. Many people seem not to realize this may be because they are not involved in such, but that’s the truth. If I didn’t come across [this as a piece of evidence](https://web.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=1794932210808694&_rdc=1&_rdr), I wouldn’t mention it.
Other platforms also curb spamming in many ways depending on the type of spamming they take seriously. For example, twitter curbs [spamming through various means](https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/31/twitters-spam-reporting-tool-now-lets-you-specify-type-including-if-its-a-fake-account/). Reddit also dislikes spamming. In a nutshell, Every platform no matter how centralized or decentralized have its ways of fighting spam.
### Hive frowns at comment spamming
As earlier discussed above, I got more info about comment spamming today when I got into the server for a reason and asked a question. I realized It’s more than what I thought. I got the info from @Hivewatchers-Helper.

10 or more generic comments per day that are not in response to a question posed by the post or comment. “Thanks”, “Great Post!”, “Great Photo!”, “Good”, “Like”, “Nice”, “Wow”, “Cute”, “Follow me”, etc.
Commenting on old posts to hide self up-votes or a voting trail.
Copy/Paste comments that serve no purpose or the purpose is self-promotion (including copying and pasting similar comments in a rotating way).
Comments that inform the contributor that they have been up upvoted, resteemed, or flagged when the curator does not actually upvote, resteem, or flag the post.
Unsolicited and off-topic referral links.

I believe it’s high time we take some things into account. Where there are no rules, there is no sin. Comment spamming is a sin on the hive.
