Cashing In

Hi fellow Weekenders,

Recently I had spent time doing some extra work. We all need some side hustles!

# Fruits of Labor

One of the best ways to spend a weekend in the wintertime, when I can, is to do some extra work. I don't want to be working extra in the summertime so I try and do it as often as I can in the winter! Having the extra funds helps, especially in the 'Rona times when that can be hard to find.

There's always, I think, an interesting quality to Boston in the early hours of the morning. It's cooler with snow but this was prior to the dump we got!

Sitting near the docks, waiting for the sunrise was a really nice way to spend some time before work started. Even caught some police boats, just patrolling around but had their lights on cause it's cool I guess, and some nice planes flying into Logan.

The dry dock is one of my favorite parts of this part of the city. It's always cool to see the different ships that come into port and get fixed up!

By the color of the ship, I'm not entirely sure but it certainly seems like some kind of Navy vessel. I know that there are routinely hospital ships that come into port to get fixed up or resupplied, not sure which, but they end up in the dry dock here.

I think one of my favorite components of the area down here is the industrial feel to it. The way these are all connected and stuff, and inside the building, really makes me wish I could just travel back in time every half decade or so and see what is going on in the building. It would be cool to come back to the times where this area started getting built up and all the hustle and bustle that goes along with that!

Doing extra work sometimes isn't ideal but when it's coupled with interesting things like this, it makes it much more interesting to do the work. The money is definitely a help but so isn't the atmosphere. One of the things I will miss when we eventually move far out of the area, is being able to snap up some work at this location. I think we will routinely come back to visit the Boston area, so perhaps we could even stop by around an upcoming work schedule.

A little extra money always comes in handy and with the weather like it is it's best done now when you're not missing out on the good weather other seasons provide. I do a little mentoring and coaching on the side, nothing serious, but I get paid a little and probably should look at doing it full time...I'll be honest though, I don't want to spend any more time away from Faith. I had a property development company and have spent the last 20 years in the property industry which has been full-on...I just want to spend time with Faith now...But yep, some extra money would be good. Nothing comes for nothing though right? Cause and effect.

Yeah that's cool, mentoring and coaching is good! I was a college tutor for some stuff for a bit but off-the-books in a way. The program director got wind of it and shut it down, told me I needed to apply officially through the college and they wanted this crazy amount of time and effort I said no thanks, not worth it to help them if you're going to put me through the ringer to do it. I loved the subject too but it wasn't meant to be.
As we get older we certainly just want to spend more time with our close family and loved ones, this "work" business just gets in the way! lol

I've learned a lot over the years and some of it may be relevant to others and so I share the knowledge, experience, success and failures with others. I'm careful to make sure they form their own opinions though; It's not for me to imprint that on them, but showing them how to set goals, deal with failure, and success, concepts around time-management, prioritisation, delegation, leadership, humility and so on...Can have some value for those receptive to it.

I'm wondering what extra work I'm qualified to do when I quit teaching. Probably tutoring - and that sucks. But I do need another way to make some cash and I'm fed up with my job. Good you can have a bit on the side to puff out the coinage a bit, though it's always tough stretching your hours and keeping you away from the fam.

Yeah the separation from the family is certainly tough. The pay is really good though so Siena and I both agree that it's worth it while I can get it lol. It's hit or miss sometimes! 

As someone who teaches, you could do some advisory stuff or even get back into teaching itself but in a different manner, with a focus on holistic stuff! You're also a pretty good yoga fan so maybe that as well? There's possibilities everywhere!

I often sit back and think, *there has to be more*. I don't mean money, but *life*. Don't get me wrong, Faith and I have a good life, just...Work gets in the way and whilst I don't mind my work, I'd rather not do it. I think we over-complicate things though, don't you? I mean *we humans*. Life shouldn't be so complicated, so time-poor. 

The moment we started growing crops, Homo Sapiens I mean, we became slaves...Ah to go back to our hunter-gatherer roots. 

This comment took a turn huh? Lol. I guess what I mean is that we should be able to find simplicity, a more happy, enjoyable existence but society isn't that way inclined. We got tamed by wheat...The daily grind of wake up, tend the crops, defend the crops, care for them, plant them, water them, harvest them...Go to sleep, wake up repeat. Insert *job* instead of crops and that's my point. *There has to be more*. We just have to make it happen, somehow.

Yeah, that's the trick. I'm so done. I'm loathing work. I love the kids, enjoy the classroom - but I'm resentful that I even have to do it. Please get me out of here asap. How do people enjoy working for a living? I don't know, it's not me. Gimme my own crops to tend, not someone elses.
