The numbers in the bottom right corner are the strength and toughness of the creature. Basically, how much damage can it deal in a turn, and how much does it take to kill it.

The mana cost in the top right is one of any color, one black, and one blue. Three total converted mana cost, two of which are required to be specific colors. Usually, this CMC is about the average of the strength and toughness, but extra abilities usually add to the cost of the creature.

In this case, we have Deathtouch, which means that 1 strength kills anything that isn't invulnerable altogether. Lifelink means any damage it deals also increases its controller's life total. And the draw/discard option helps get to needed cards, hopefully.

The art definitely adds an appeal beyond card mechanics. Especially in Commander decks, I may choose to add a card or two mainly because I like to see it when I draw it.
