Llevo un rato queriendo tocar este tema sensible, no se muy bien por que de repente me dio por investigar un poco sobre la historia de la pirateria en el videojuego y como me ha afectado como jugador a lo largo de mi vida, recuerdo que la mayoria de los juegos que jugaba los comprabamos mi tio y yo en una de esas tiendas moviles que andaban por el centro de la ciudad y recuerdo claramente que solo eran CDs quemados para la primera Playstation, era un niño asi que lo que mas me importaba era jugar pero hoy lo recuerdo y me parece muy curioso por la chispa que encendio en mi. 

La pirateria en Latino America es un tema que lleva ya bastante tiempo siendo una rutina por estos lados, al punto de que me ha sorprendido cuando escuche que en paises como los Estados Unidos ven a la pirateria mas como una curiosidad mas que como lo vemos nosotros: uno de los unicos medios para poder experimentar algun juego, extendere esto en un momento.

Asi que por un buen rato en mi infancia tenia una disquera llena de CDs son juegos grabados y que jugaba dia y noche sin descanso, esos años fueron quiza algunos de los que mas me diverti, pasaba por un momento tenso en mi familia y los videojuegos eran ese escape que necesitaba cada vez que llevaba de la escuela, habian algunos de los juegos mas iconicos de la PSX pero digamos que no fue hasta que llego la primera Xbox a mi vida que fue que en verdad pude experimentar una mas amplia variedad de juegos. 

Esta Xbox estaba tambien *crackeada*, no se como pero ya cuando empece a jugar con ella recuerdo que la mayoria de los juegos eran igualmente una copia de CDs con el nombre del juego en marcador, habian algunos originales que me gustaban mas (mayormente porque los CDs se rayan muy rapido), aca fue que disfrute algunos de los mejores juegos de aquella consola, por un rato todo lo que hacia era jugar, con amigos o familiares.

Probablemente me estoy desviando un poco, pero a lo que quiero llegar es que, sin condonarlo, la pirateria me habia abierto la posibilidad de experimentar el videojuego, de un modo raro tambien habia moldeado mis pensamientos hacia el, creia que la mayoria de los juegos se compraban de la manera que mi tio lo estaba haciendo, solo saliendo al centro de la ciudad y buscar a algunos de los puestos que vendian los CDs en unas pequeñas bolsas de plastico con el logo del videojuego enfrente. 

Muchos piensan que la pirateria esta haciendole un daño irreparable al videojuego, no solo porque los estudios dejan de ganar su suma por venderte algun titulo sino porque tambien creen que si descargaste algun juego gratis, es muy probable que descargues otro.

Recuerdo vividamente que la mayoria de los juegos que jugaba tanto en la Playstation como en la primer Xbox eran solo CDs quemados con los juegos, pero que pasa despues de que yo empiezo a trabajar mas adelante y gano algo de dinero?, de repente ahora soy mas propenso a comprar algo relacionado con el videojuego, porque ahora tengo una relacion con el, me encantan los videojuegos, gracias a la pirateria. 

Y asi ha sido, desde hace ya varios años que rara vez descargo algun juego, recientemente estoy muy metido en la ola de los juegos independientes, juegos bonitos, muy divertidos y baratos, por lo que puedo permitirme comprar en una sola sentada todo lo que voy a jugar en el mes, ademas tambien entran en escena varios de los programas de juegos gratis de estudios como Epic Games, o las ofertas casi diarias en Steam.

No creo necesariamente que la pirateria sea un problema importante para el videojuego, de hecho he leido varios estudios en donde proponen que esta practica de hecho beneficia a esta industria a mediano plazo, permitiendo que usuarios que no tienen la posibilidad de pagar por estos productos los consuman de todas formas, apoyandose de que en el futuro si hay alguna otra cosa relacionado a ese producto puedan ser comprados una vez el usuario disponga para adquirirlo. 

Por mi parte esta es la historia, la pirateria en mayor o menor medida me hizo entrar y enamorarme del videojuego, en mi pais es una practica ya consolidada desde hace años, eso no quiere decir que no haya personas que paguen por servicios, recientemente con la llegada de servicios como Game Pass o los Free 2 Play estoy seguro de que estamos gastando mucho mas ahora que hace unos años en el videojuego. ¿Cual es tu opinion sobre la pirateria?

I' ve been wanting to touch this sensitive topic for a while, I don't know why I suddenly decided to investigate a little bit about the history of videogame piracy and how it has affected me as a gamer throughout my life, I remember that most of the games I played were bought by my uncle and I in one of those mobile stores that were around downtown and I clearly remember that they were only burned CDs for the first Playstation, I was a kid so what mattered most to me was to play but today I remember it and I find it very curious for the spark that ignited in me. 

Piracy in Latin America is a topic that has been a routine for quite some time in these parts, to the point that I was surprised when I heard that in countries like the United States they see piracy as a curiosity rather than as we see it: one of the only means to experience some game, I will extend this in a moment.

So for a good while in my childhood I had a CD player full of burned games that I played day and night without a break, those years were perhaps some of the most fun I had, I was going through a tense time in my family and video games were the escape I needed every time I got home from school, there were some of the most iconic games on the PSX but let's just say it wasn't until the first Xbox came into my life that I really got to experience a wider variety of games. 

This Xbox was also *cracked*, I don't know how but when I started playing with it I remember that most of the games were also a copy of CDs with the name of the game in marker, there were some originals that I liked more (mostly because CDs scratch very fast), here was that I enjoyed some of the best games of that console, for a while all I did was play, with friends or family.

I''m probably getting a bit sidetracked, but what I''m getting at is that, without condoning it, piracy had opened up the possibility for me to experience video gaming, in a weird way it had also shaped my thoughts towards it, I believed that most games were bought the way my uncle was doing it, just by going out into the city center and looking for some of the stalls that sold the CDs in little plastic bags with the video game logo on the front of them. 

Many think that piracy is doing irreparable damage to video games, not only because the studios stop earning money for selling you a title, but also because they believe that if you downloaded a game for free, you are likely to download another one. 

## Yes, but there is another side to all this.

I remember vividly that most of the games I played on both the Playstation and the first Xbox were just burned CDs with the games on them, but what happens after I start working later on and make some money, all of a sudden now I'm more likely to buy something video game related, because now I have a relationship with it, I love video games, thanks to piracy. 

And so it has been, for several years now I rarely download any game, recently I'm very into the wave of indie games, nice games, very fun and cheap, so I can afford to buy in one sitting everything I'm going to play in the month, plus also enter the scene several of the free game programs from studios like Epic Games, or the almost daily offers on Steam.

I don't necessarily think that piracy is a major problem for video games, in fact I have read several studies where they propose that this practice actually benefits this industry in the medium term, allowing users that don't have the possibility to pay for these products to consume them anyway, supporting that in the future if there is something else related to that product they can be bought once the user disposes to acquire it. 

For my part this is the story, piracy to a greater or lesser extent made me enter and fall in love with the video game, in my country is a practice already consolidated for years, that does not mean that there are no people who pay for services, recently with the advent of services like Game Pass or Free 2 Play I'm sure we are spending much more now than a few years ago in the video game. What is your opinion on piracy?
