<html> <p>Hi,</p> <p>my name is Jure V. and I am a programmer living in Slovenia. My life was pretty ordinary (as expected for a geek), with minor positive events (like traveling to Denmark for half a year on a student exchange program). I was generally frustrated with my life more and more until I reached a point when I had enough. Around January 2014 I decided to travel north, without a plan where to go or when I'm coming back. I rented a car and came to Berlin, where I stayed for a couple of weeks and then went on by foot. I walked 600 km, through beautiful German forests, swam a river that was on my way (left my laptop and phone behind), until I reached a town called Prenzlau, almost by the Polish border. It had a lake and it was nice, and there was an abandoned school, so I decided to stay. I ate whatever I could find in the nature, shoplifted when absolutely necessary and enjoyed my freedom, when I was not playing cat-and-mouse games with the local police.</p> <p><img src="https://i.imgur.com/S9Qht3Q.jpg"/></p> <p>The picture above shows an abandoned railroad that I used frequently. It led to a remote farm where I could get something to eat (don't ask what).</p> <p>After about a year of this adventure, the local authorities decided it was enough, and transported me back home.</p> <p>It's a story hard to believe, and I don't have pictures to prove it (since I left my gadgets behind), but if anyone here is from Prenzlau, I'll be happy to share more details.</p> </html>

Welcome to steemit, @codemojo! It is not hard to believe. It is a story that sounds interesting as hell. I would love to hear more about it. My profile is @flashfiction and i would like to present you some links i found really useful when i first signed up here. They will make you start with the right foot on Steemit! These links will all open on the SAME TAB (Yeah, i know...), so i recommend opening them with "right click->open in a new tab". Link | Check | Description ------------ | ------------- | ------------- [Growing Fast](https://steemfollower.com/?r=6978) | Top | You **HAVE** to register here, if you want to build an audience **FAST**. It's a free service for boosting exposure, upvotes and followers. You just have to click on "login". Have your key at hand (That awfully long number you got when you signed up on Steemit). The tutorials are easy to follow. [All about steem coins](https://steemit.com/steem/@hawaryatef/the-differences-between-steem-steem-dollars-and-steem-power) | Top | There are three coins of use on Steemit, and understanding them is critical for your success. This is a short explaining video, the very best i've found. [Markdown](https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/) | Top | Even if you can use some basic HTML on your posts, the correct way to format them is NOT HTML. You use a marking ruleset called, yeah, "Markdown". Have this as a complete reference. [Posting](http://theawarenessrevolution.com/10-tips-for-steemit-posts/) | Medium | The top activities on this site are posting, upvoting and commenting. This is an excellent tutorial about making your posts look great. Don't miss it! [Upvoting](https://steemit.com/steem-help/@steempowerwhale/how-to-upvote-make-money-and-avoid-costly-mistakes-quick-and-easy-help-for-noobs) | Medium | Yeah, you tought upvoting was just a matter of machine-gunning your clicks and make easy bucks. Nah. It is actually a little more complicated than that. All you need to know is here. [Better interface](https://busy.org) | Medium | Let's face it: The interface on Steemit is pretty basic. "Busy" is an alternate interface you can use, more polished and easy to navigate. Both of them can be used simultaneously. Again, you just have to login. [Using Bots](https://steemit.com/steemit/@cerebralace/how-to-use-the-steemit-voting-bots) | Medium | There are a lot of things to learn about this platform, and understanding bots is one of the most important. They are little different services you can access for a fee. I found this tutorial extremely useful. [Trevon James](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWZbtMeOAb_qpEVUl551l7w) | Medium | I know, i know... there are lots and lots of GREAT steemians here for picking one to recommend, but i just love Trevon's style. He explains EVERYTHING you need to know about Steemit (and crypto) in a funny, accesible way. Check him out. [@flashfiction](http://steemit.com/@flashfiction) | **Awesome**| Well, duh. My profile! ;) I write short fiction and tutorials on creative writing. I would be honored if you'd follow me. Anything i cand help you with, i'm at your service! See you around!

Nah, man. It's not for me. The "Busy" service functions pretty much like a facebook or twitter service. Think of it like hootsuite. The key is for accessing it, then it asks you if you'd give it some permissions to set up and that's it. I am sorry i was not clear.

The thing that it helped me the most was that now I don't give a f* about anything not-related to my family, GF or friends. I can plot a world-changing conspiracy and don't care if it costs me my life (figuratively speaking). I've seen the other side. And now, I'm pretty happy in my skin. Especially not picky about the food anymore as I used to be. Very positive experience all in all.
