Yesterday I went to my friend's wedding, it was done in a grand fashion where around 25-40 items were served in food. The venue (the resort) was a little far from my place but it was quite good. The resort was something like below:  PC: moongate.in Now looking at the venue as well as the whole arrangement, it looked quite expensive. And it is true with any Indian wedding where it gest quite expensive on both Groom's or Bride's side (a little more). I remember when I has my wedding 6 years back, we have to pay a lot for the venue, food, jewellery, clothes etc. These are some of the major expenses but again it gets quite expensive. And we have a name for it "The Indian Fat Wedding". The problem is, it is not only for the rich, the middle-class people have to spend a lot of money too and thus it is extremely important for people to start saving for their daughter's marriage. I remember when my elder sister got married, my father struggled a lot to get that money for the wedding, but somehow it was managed with friends and relatives. But the point is wherever your condition maybe you end up spending a lot. Some take loans, some take out from investments and some might have saved just for that. And I am sure this not gonna stop too, the tradition is like that where we will have a wedding running for 5-6 days and then 100s of guests are invited (this is because we also went to their marriages), jewellery (with gold prices touching sky) and other things. I know people try to do the wedding as per their wealth but again there are some instances where people try to overdo it and it becomes quite expensive for them. I have a daughter and I know it will cost me a bomb to do the wedding after 20 years, so I have also started saving for my daughter's wedding so that it will help me to plan accordingly for my daughter's wedding. Though we do not have any dowry system as of now so it is a good sign for me. But with lifestyle inflation and other things, I feel the inflation in the wedding space would be a minimum of 10% and I have to beat that inflation for sure. The wedding season is quite entertaining too in India, where you get to enjoy yourself in all the 5 days with good food, good company and lot of new faces and friends.
