Effectively using decentralized data – Quadrant

They say data is the today's currency. But it is not the one with the most data that is the richest, it is the one who can best make use of the data he/she holds. And that is sort of the main problem today. Everybody owns data and everybody produces data. But none of us know how to make use of the data we have and produce. You are creating data on many servers by accessing and reading this article. I have created a stamp on some records by publishing this article. We're going on producing data, when we like a post, make a call, post a picture, send a message, and what not. The problem is, we don't have much channels to use all this data. We are primarily **data producers**.

The people, or group of people who use the data we create are called the **data consumers**. They can use the data for various purposes – like designing a product, obtaining feedback, solving real world problems, and so on. Abundance of data is their strong point, but that also becomes their weakness. Just like how too many cooks spoil the broth, too much data can actually cause the exact opposite results that the consumer actually wants. There should be a platform, which can take in data, and provide a much effective, collaborated and optimized version.

# The Quadrant Protocol

The Quadrant protocol is a data creation, exchange and distribution protocol that is based on blockchain. Quadrant takes a unique approach to describe the state of the data economy today. They say it is similar to space. That it is unmapped and chaotic. Through blockchain, Quadrant protocol aims to create a well-organized and mapped ecosystem of data.

Quadrant is set out to solve a lot of problems that is existing in the data economy. They try to reduce the data monopoly of tech giants like Google and Facebook, who have a lot of our data stored in their servers. Creating a map of what all details of which all people is available with them, reduces their power as we can choose to hide irrelevant/personal data from them. Second is the problem of fake data being made available to the data consumers, which makes their research and development go in the wrong direction. Through Quadrant, anyone can trace back to the ownership of data to its rightful owner, and hence certify that it is genuine. The process is called stamping.

I already mentioned that we don't have much to do with the data we produce. But Quadrant can change that. They are planning to incentivize the data providers, for taking the effort to provide the data and stamp it, hence helping to prove its authenticity to the world. Stamping is the process of registering a hash (think of a fingerprint) of the data that is generated with Quadrant, so that the consumers can check the hash again to verify that the data reached them without any alteration or manipulation.

The project has its own token, known as the QUAD token. The QUAD token can be used to make payments inside the network, for example for requesting data, for stamping, etc.

# Conclusion

The Quadrant Protocol is not the first of its kind. But it is certainly the first in its niche to have such a well-planned roadmap and idea. The idea of incentivizing the data creators makes this project all the more exciting, and it opens a wide range of opportunities, because now companies and manufacturers can have authentic, fool proof data to work on their services. That means better and better products for us.

Data analytics and big data have already proved to be the next big things in the technology industry, but with introduction of the Quadrant Protocol, can we expect the term "Data Organization" to also be discussed and debated in the near future? Only time will tell.
