 Twin Lakes is the last wide spot in the road to stop at before you go through Independence Pass and on down to Aspen, Colorado. When I was heading to Aspen the scenery around there caught my eye and I had to stop and set up camp and explore a bit. There was even an old country general store by the side of the road (and not much else) that was begging me to take its picture.  I've been on something of a break from the hive here lately, did I miss anything? It wasn't an intentional break, I just keep getting sidetracked and distracted and time sometimes gets away from me. Does any of y'all out there play Magic: The Gathering? I recently dug my cards out after more than a decade of gathering dust and started teaching my pandemic partner how to play. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to play and how much time it can make disappear (I'm blaming Magic for my recent absence from hive . A ton of stuff has changed since I last played so it's been interesting playing catch-up.  I walked outside earlier today to take out the trash only to discover that it was snowing (insert grumbling sounds here). They're forecasting up to three inches of the white stuff this evening, could one of y'all please send me some warm weather? Three inches ain't much to get excited about but it is still more than we've gotten in a few years at least. Is it just me or does it seem like each year there is less and less snow? Winters in Kentucky still get a bit cold but we don't see the same snowfall we used to. These past few winters you could count on one hand the number of times it snowed, and usually it didn't add up to much. For comparison, one year when I was in high school we missed 33 days of school due to snow (mountain roads, snow, and school buses are no bueno) and we usually got at least one good snowstorm a year.  As pretty as Twin Lakes is I don't think I could ever live there. It's more than 9,000 feet above sea level and it gets cold! State Highway 82, the road that runs through town and Independence Pass and on down to Aspen is only open seasonally. During winter it is usually closed due to snow and Aspen is cut off from parts further east. The population of Twin Lakes is only 171 and I can understand why...  This isn't my first post about Twin Lakes so I won't bore you further with trivia about it. If any of you are current or former players of Magic, drop me a comment! Great shots for a great spot! Did you go the the ghost town there, Though there's not much there- just a few old cabins but very photographic... Has inspired me to pull out my old photos from 97 and scan them and play around with them to see what I get. Loved the Aspen area- much more in summer than winter...

Thanks! I did, stopped at the ghost town the day after I took these photos. I was amazed that people had lived there under those conditions as long as they did and quite amused to discover that they'd abandoned the town en mass on homemade skis. I'd be interested in seeing those photos! I was there in 2017, I'm curious to see how much had changed in 20 years. I've only been in the area in summer but since I'm not a fan of the cold, I can't imagine liking winter there better than summer. Might make for prettier photos though. Thanks for dropping by!

Gets weird around here when everything outside has a sequence. Been through Aspen, can't say I know Twin Lakes other than the times you've shared. Lived in Vail for a winter quite awhile back though. Doing some building in a village where Oprah had a house. Good times. Lot more sledding than building. Magic. Here I is! I have a tendency to get to feeling like I need to write a post every day and after a while of that it becomes something of a chore, then there goes the fun and creativity. Plus I tend to go all or nothing, if something has captured my attention you won't hear much out of me for a bit. I'd gotten off I-70 and was taking the back roads when I rolled into Twin Lakes, it's just a bit south and west of Leadville, the Leadville ultramarathon passes through there I think. I was heading to Aspen to shoot Maroon Bells but wound up camping in a national forest closer to Glenwood Springs. Aspen just seemed pretentious as hell, I couldn't wait to get away from there. Vail sounds fun, I spent a day exploring Minturn and its environs near there but never did more than pass through Vail. [Magic](https://magic.wizards.com/en) is a trading card game, think pokemon or yu-gi-oh cards but way more complicated. Wizards of the Coast created it back in the early 90s and then hasbro bought them in the early 2000s. I last played about 12 years ago so I've still got some catching up to do. I'm going to do a post on it soon, it's something of a niche nerdy hobby or at least was when I last played. Thanks! My grandfather ran an old country general store for decades, it really grabbed my attention and reminded me of that so I had to stop.
