This is Jesus, a man who aged at the same time as the city, a man who has walked the streets of Timotes so many times that he would not reach a lifetime to count them, his last name I forget, but I do not forget the songs he usually sings while giving slow but incessant steps. No one knows the streets better than Jesus, each path, each lost step of stairs that lead nowhere, because that is his life, that is how it has always been.

Each place has its iconic characters which are part of its identity, of its idiosyncrasy, a town is nothing more than the soul of its inhabitants, it is the smell of bread that comes from the corner, the old peasant who goes with his grandson walking to their lands to work, each person who walks since the sun rises to make their city work, as part of a whole, like the cells that make up a body, each one in their world, but marching in tandem... as the exact pace of the soldiers, said Jorge Drexler.

Yesterday's newspapers fly free over the road, wrapped in the cold of a morning like any other, it seems an independent film, composed of so many elements that adorn the view, but that at the same time do not allow us to appreciate them in their entirety, and the walker at a firm but slow pace, without stopping, but allowing enough time for Mrs. Rosa to leave with a piece of bread, for the walker to continue on his way with a full stomach.

He also visited the man who shared his name, the one who dedicated his whole life to his books and selling newspapers, another Jesus who started it every morning with jazz, in the afternoon blues, and at night Mercedes Sosa. The walker traced a route that only he knew, although sometimes he would sit and watch the world turn, nothing else really matter to him...

Many rainy afternoons fell on his shoulders, but the traveler did not want to stop, not even if the cold broke his teeth, not even if the inclement night came, day after day, year after year, perhaps until the next life.

> Este es Jesús, un hombre que envejeció al mismo tiempo que la ciudad, un hombre que ha recorrido las calles de Timotes tantas veces que no alcanzaría una vida para contarlas, su apellido se me olvida, pero no olvido las canciones que suele cantar mientras da pasos lentos pero incesantes. Nadie conoce mejor las calles que Jesús, cada camino, cada escalón perdido de escaleras que no llevan a ninguna parte, pues esa es su vida, así siempre ha sido.

> Cada lugar tiene sus personajes icónicos los cuales forman parte de su identidad, de su idiosincrasia, un pueblo no es mas que el alma de sus habitantes, es el olor a pan que sale desde la esquina, el anciano campesino que va con su nieto caminando hasta sus tierras para trabajar, cada persona que camina desde que sale el sol para hacer que su ciudad funcione, como parte de un todo, como las células que componen un cuerpo, cada uno en su mundo, pero marchando a la par...  como el paso exacto de los soldados, decía Jorge Drexler.

> Los periódicos de ayer vuelan libres sobre la carretera, arropados por el frío de una mañana como cualquiera, parece un Film independiente, compuesto de tantos elementos que adornan la vista, pero que a la vez no nos permiten apreciarlos en su totalidad, y viene el caminante a paso firme pero lento, sin detenerse, pero dando el tiempo suficiente para que la señora Rosa salga con un trozo de pan, para que el caminante siga su rumbo con el estomago lleno.

> Visitaba también al hombre que compartía su nombre, el que toda su vida la dedicó a sus libros y a vender periódicos, otro Jesús que cada mañana la iniciaba con jazz, a la tarde blues, y en las noches Mercedes Sosa. El caminante trazaba una ruta que solo el conocía, aunque a veces se sentaba a observar como giraba el mundo, nada mas parecía importarle...

> Muchas tardes de lluvia cayeron sobre sus hombros, pero el caminante no quería detenerse, ni aunque el frío quebrara sus dientes, ni aunque llegara la noche inclemente, día tras día, año tras año, tal vez hasta la siguiente vida.

What a pleasure to be able to dedicate the entire morning to painting this character that I used to see every day walking through the town that was once my home, what a beautiful coincidence, that the most recognized character of that town lived a couple of houses from me. home.

I took the original photograph myself a couple of years ago if I remember correctly, the walker was singing, mentioning Adelaida, and a certain President ... And the photo immortalized the moment, already knowing from the beginning that my firm intention was to paint it.

I started early yesterday morning at about 1:00 AM. and without realizing it had already dawned, what a delight for the soul, to be able to spend my early morning painting, especially when the results are like these.

> Que placer poder dedicarle la madrugada entera a pintar a este personaje que solía ver todos los días caminando por el pueblo que alguna vez fue mi hogar, que bonita casualidad, que el personaje mas reconocido de ese pueblo, vivía a un par de casas de mi casa.

> La fotografía original la tomé yo mismo hace un par de años si mal no recuerdo, el caminante iba cantando, mencionando a Adelaida, y a un tal Presidente... Y la foto inmortalizó el momento, ya sabiendo yo desde un principio, que mi firme intención era pintarlo.

> Comencé la madrugada de ayer a eso de la 1:00 AM. y sin darme cuenta ya había amanecido, que deleite para el alma, poder gastar mi madrugada pintando, sobre todo cuando los resultados son como estos.

This is a miniature work, 20 cm high x 10 cm wide. As much as I love working with these formats, it is always difficult to work with pastel chalks at this scale, because the edges of the chalk are not sharp like those of a pencil or a crayon, so I had to be quite careful, especially in the smallest details, such as the face.

Esta es una obra en miniatura, 20 cm de alto x 10 cm de ancho. Por mas que me fascine trabajar con estos formatos, siempre es complicado trabajar con tizas pastel a esta escala, pues los bordes de la tiza no son afilados como los de un lápiz o un crayon, por lo que debí ser bastante cuidadoso, en especial en los detalles mas pequeños, como los del rostro.

Me preocupa un poco que el deterioro haga de las suyas con esta pequeña pintura, la tiza pastel suele erosionarse muy fácilmente en una superficie que no sea adecuada y este es el caso, además de su reducido tamaño, lo que hace un poco complicado el proceso de enmarcarlo.
