If there is actually one particular health issue that I feared so much growing up, I will definitely say it was Asthma. I have heard about the discomfort it usually gives for people who suffer from it and sometimes I tend to pity them strongly. Somebody will ask why? Well any health issues that affects our breathing rate have every tendency to cause massive discomfort. 




As many of us might know of, Asthma is a very chronic respiratory condition that makes it difficult when it comes to breathing, sometimes it cause coughing. For patients who suffer from it, they are most of the time encourage to use a lot of medications and even take a proper look at their lifestyle in order to cope with the disease. When it comes to Nigeria, if you want to manage the case of asthma , it must comes with more intentionality because of the air and environmental pollution that surrounds our society almost every time.

Most of the time, asthma is always trigger by something. Sometimes it can be trigger by an environmental factor like air pollution, like dust and generally smoke also. Not only that, most of the time, asthmatic patient are allergic to something like pollen, and many more. Most of the time, one of the first way of managing asthma is for you it even know those triggers as it will help you to properly avoid asthma attacks. 



Most of the issue when it comes to managing asthma is the fact that there is no enough asthma medications available for patients. I am talking from experience. Take for example in rural areas in Nigeria that lacks good medical facilities and even those asthma medications which are inhaler. Sometimes it can really be a strong challenge for the asthma patients. Not only that, in the society I lived in Nigeria precisely who believed everything is spiritual, they find it difficult to treat it medically because they believe spiritual force is behind it.

When it comes to managing or treating asthma, there are some things that can be put in place. The unfortunate aspect of asthma is the fact that it is not curable but nevertheless it can be effectively managed to the best. The first is to be on medical treatments. Most of the time, asthma patients is always five inhalers to help them manage the illness. Not only that, since most of the time, asthma is triggered by air pollution, it is necessary that you adjust your lifestyle choice against air pollution so as not to be triggered by it. 



I personally, I strongly believe that the government should create some structures in place so as to be able to manage the illness in our society. There should be more public awareness and enlightenment program that needs to be done. They will help effectively to bring people to understand much more about how the illness works and to help them know how to effectively know how to manage it instead of believing in wrong misconceptions that it is spiritual. There should also be more availability of quality medical facilities and medications most especially in the rural areas. It is very important. 



If you are living with asthma, I am just hear to tell you that is not the end of the road, you can still successfully overcome it. All you need to put in place are the right structure. You can still live your fulfilled life and you can still freely interact in the society with no boundaries. Generally everyone of us not only the government, but everyone of us needs to play a major role in increasing the quality of living for asthma patients in the Society. We should stop stigmatising them.
