Bitcoin’s very public scaling debate is entering a  essential stage. Two of the most popular scaling proposals available today — BIP148 and SegWit2x — both intend to trigger SegWit activation less than a month, which means that the protocol upgrade could be live within two.

For sure this whole buzz will bring uncertainty in the bitcoin community, as the outcome for the future for the most valued and recognizable cryptocurrency is at stake. Depending on which side the majority of the miners will stood for, there is possibility to witness a hard fork or soft of BTC.  The New York Agreement, also referred to as the “Silbert Accord” or “SegWit2x,” plans to activate SegWit through BIP91.Moreover, the second step of the New York Agreement is a hard fork to double Bitcoin’s “base block size.” This change, as opposed to Segregated Witness itself, is not backwards compatible, and could therefore lead to a split.

No matter which side you choose to support, don't forget that long-term implementation and adoption is the main cause, we aim to achieve. I believe that Bitcoin will survive and get even stronger despite the obstacles and the period of uncertainty that is about to come!
