The California Scrub Jay is a beautiful bird. But a difficult one to photograph. In the right kind of light the brilliance of the blue pops.

El Scrub Jay de California es un pájaro hermoso. Pero difícil de fotografiar. Con el tipo de luz adecuado, el brillo de los estallidos azules.

But the right light at the wrong angle, and their dark faces get obscured. Or maybe this jay is just wearing sunglasses.

Still, capturing a good shot of one of these guys is super rewarding, because they are not only a nice color, they are cute.

They are also fast.

Since there are a lot of cloudy days where I live, it's hard to get a fast enough shutter speed without sacrificing light and crispness when taking pictures of the Scrub Jays. I'm sure there are experts out there that have a special formula, but me, I'm still learning.

Trying to capture a shot of a jay while they hop from branch to branch has also proved challenging, and doesn't generally capture much of their glorious color. But sometimes I still capture the cuteness.

And sometimes my patience and persistence is rewarded by a kind jay that lets me capture a couple beautiful shots.

This is my first time making a bilingual post in English and Spanish. I am using the translator in Chrome, so I am guessing there are some mistakes. Hopefully none that are embarrassing! Please let me know if this is something you would like to see more of, and if you have any recommendations for another free and easy translator.
