Brazil has experienced extreme weather events in different parts of its territory. This is already known internationally and I myself posted about a variation of tsunamis that happened here, various floods and even the drought in January that destroyed my garden during my absence. The fact is that global warming seems to still have some practical effect on our generation, so we will no longer be able to use the excuse that our children will be the ones to solve it! In terms of temperature, the last few days have been record highs for the period. Even though summer was over, temperatures were very high with cities recording a wind chill of 60º C / 140º F. Yesterday was no different, although my city had peaks of 40º C / 104º F (I don't know how to obtain thermal sensation data, and the local newspaper didn't report it). This extreme temperature, associated with the layout of my home, caused my UPS to boil. Yesterday morning there was already a certain odor in the air indicating that something wrong was happening, but in my opinion it was just some incense from my daughter, the smell of which I didn't like, as always. I was wrong and at the end of the afternoon the alarm started to sound, which made me take the ladder and inspect my UPS, which unfortunately is located at around 2.5m high. In this position, we know that hot air predominates, which makes it difficult to maintain low temperatures. The UPS was boiling, I could literally hear the battery bubbling, and the fairing was very hot to the touch of my hand. I turned off the equipment and needed to adapt my installation, as the UPS's function is only to keep the network equipment connected. It turns out that I also have an inverter and a pair of batteries that are slowly charged using a solar panel and charge controller. This set is activated manually only when I am at home and the electricity supply fails. It holds a television and two water pumps, which pressurize the bathrooms allowing me to use my hot water (heated by the sun) to shower. Plus they also support the TV in my room :D Unfortunately, I had to choose to keep the network structure on, so I'm without a TV. Still, I have enough charge to last many hours, maybe days. However, I do not intend to test my ability and hope that the utility's power returns quickly. With each deep battery discharge cycle, its useful life is reduced. Now I'm taking the battery to a specialized store to have tests carried out. If it is in good condition, I will check the budget for repairing the UPS, otherwise I will consider purchasing a new one. O Brasil tem passado por eventos climáticos extremos, em diversos pontos do seu território. Isso já é conhecido internacionalmente e eu mesmo postei sobre uma variação de tsunamis que aconteceram por aqui, alagamentos diversos e até a seca em janeiro que acabou com meu jardim durante minha ausência. Fato é que o aquecimento global parece ter algum efeito prático ainda em nossa geração, então não vamos mais poder usar a desculpa de que nossos filhos é que resolvam! Na questão temperatura, os últimos dias tem sido de recordes para maiores altas do período. Mesmo com o verão tendo encerrado, as temperaturas estavam muito altas com cidades registrando sensação térmica de 60º C / 140º F. Ontem não foi diferente, apesar de que minha cidade teve picos de 40º C / 104º F (eu não sei obter o dado de sensação térmica, e o jornal local não informou). Essa temperatura extrema, associada ao layout da minha residência, fez que com meu nobreak fervesse. Ontem de manhã já havia um certo odor no ar apontando que algo de errado estava acontecendo, porém no meu julgamento era apenas algum incenso de minha filha, cujo odor não me agradou, como sempre. Eu estava errado e no final da tarde começou soar o alarme, o que me fez pegar a escada e inspecionar meu nobreak que infelizmente fica alocado a cerca de 2,5m de altura. Nesta posição, sabemos que o ar quente predomina, o que dificulta a manutenção de temperaturas baixas. O nobreak estava fervendo, literalmente pude ouvir a bateria borbulhando, e a carenagem estava muito quente ao toque da mão. Desliguei o equipamento e precisei adaptar minha instalação, pois a função do nobreak é apenas manter os equipamentos de rede ligados. Acontece que possuo também um inversor e um par de baterias que ficam em carga lenta através de placa solares e controlador de carga. Esse conjunto é acionado manualmente apenas quando estou em casa e a ocorre falha no fornecimento de energia elétrica. Ele sustenta uma televisão e duas bombas de água, que pressurizam os banheiros permitindo que eu utilize minha água quente (aquecida através do sol) para tomar banho. Além disso também sustentam a TV do meu quarto :D Infelizmente precisei optar por manter a estrutura de rede ligada, então estou sem TV . Ainda assim, tenho carga suficiente para muitas horas, talvez dias. Porém não pretendo testar minha capacidade e espero que a energia da concessionária retorne rapidamente. A cada ciclo profundo de descarga de bateria, sua vida útil é reduzida. Agora estou levando a bateria até uma loja especializada para que sejam realizados os testes. Estando em boas condições eu irei verificar orçamento para conserto do nobreak, caso contrário vou avaliar a aquisição de um novo.
