Yesterday I needed some balm for my soul and boy did I get it. I attended a wonderful harp concert. I saw the oldest harp in the whole country of Romania. Fantastic! The harp is old, dating from 1827 and it belongs to a well known family of musicians Iusceanu Corjos. Funny story of this harp: it is supposed to be obtained from a german soldier during his retreat, it was traded for victuals during the german retreat from WWII, in the 1944. The harp was taken and put into a carriage and transported in the transylvanian village. A feast for the ears traded for a feast for the belly. Ain't that something? I value the german soldier for having the harp in his possesion, I value romanians even more for getting it. You win some, you lose some.  The harp was kept by this family in pristine condition.The concert people were a bit worried of the heat and sun hitting the harp directly, but it all went fine. The modern harp sounds completely different than the old one. Much clearer, smoother. The frequency of playing on an old harp is 420, while on the modern one is 440. The harp is very sensitive to light, heat, wind. It is a difficult instrument to play.  I adored this concert. It was also a trio with a piano and a clarinet. What a combination! I have a list of the songs played during this Codex Caioni – Dances from Transylvania, J.S. Bach – French suit3 nr. 1 Allemande and Sarabande, Bela Kovacs – Hommage a J.S. Bach, J.S. Bach – Prelude, Georg Friedrich Häendel – Concerto, Franz Schubert – Larghetto and Andante (clarinet/harp), Georg Friedrich Häendel – Theme with variations, Dan Dediu – Rondo a la Münchausen, Isaac Albeniz – Asturias, Darius Milhaud – Scaramouche, Bela Bartok – Romanian dances/ arr. Dan Dediu. I know this list is long and might not seem of interest to you, but I will tell you my favourites from it and I recommend you giving them a listen:Isaac Albeniz - Asturias.... Played on harp, this sounds almost orgasmic guys, it's good. Dan Dediu - Rondo a la Münchausen this sounds so romanian and fairy like, loved it and Bela Bartok and his Romanian dances. It is incredible what good music can do to my spirit. I really needed something to remind of all the beauty in the simple things. A sense of calm, serenity and peace. I always found harp to be an instrument of the fairies. Like something you would hear in the divine skies, in the far away cosmos. It has something magic to it. If you need balm for your heart, harp is the one to go to. I love my city, in the summer there are all kinds of concerts and events, the next one will be a film festival.
