The last review I posted was about a French sci-fi short film from 1962 ([La Jetée](https://hive.blog/hive-166847/@cristiancaicedo/la-jetee-1962-a-scifi-classic-of-experimental-cinema-or-a-classic-scifi-of-experimental-cinema)) and after having published the article I remembered another short film that I had seen, also science fiction with a love story in its central part, but animated and latest.

_**Blush**_, known in Spanish as _**Lazos (Bonds)**_ is then an animated short film written and directed by Joe Mateo, developed by Skydance Animation for Apple TV. Until then, all the animated short films I had seen were from Pixar and I had always seen them in the cinema as part of a longer production, that is, as a prologue to the company's films. If you have ever gone to the movie theaters to see Pixar movies, you will remember that after the previews of the next releases and before the movie itself, Pixar always presented some animated short film, such as _Presto_ (shown at the screening of _WALL-E_); _La Luna_, released as an introduction to _Brave_; _Lava_, the love story between two volcanoes; or my favourites: _Partly Cloudy_, a cute story with clouds, storks and babies that was shown alongside _Up_; and _Bao_, a very original vision about how difficult it is to accept that our children grow up and have to lead their own lives. If you haven't seen any of these shorts, I highly recommend them.

Hasta ese momento todos los cortometrajes animados que había visto eran de Pixar y siempre los había visto en el cine como parte de una producción más larga, es decir, como prólogo a las películas de la compañía. Si alguna vez acudieron a las salas de cine a ver las películas de Pixar recordarán que después de los avances de los próximos estrenos y antes de la película como tal, Pixar siempre presentaba algún cortometraje animado, como por ejemplo _Presto_ (mostrado en la proyección de _WALL-E_); _La Luna_, lanzado como introducción a _Brave_; _Lava_, la historia de amor entre dos volcanes; o mis favoritos: _Partly Cloudy_, una tierna historia con nubes, cigüeñas y bebés que fue mostrado junto a _Up_; y _Bao_, una visión muy original sobre lo difícil que es aceptar que nuestros hijos crecen y deben hacer sus propias vidas. Si no han visto ninguno de estos cortos, se los recomiendo.

Although _**Blush**_ is not from Pixar, it has the same style of emotional, touching animated short, with a deep message shown through a very simple and symbolic story, and with that particular mix of joy, sadness, tears and smiles in equal measure that make us enjoy it and reflect on serious and important issues.

>Si bien _**Blush**_ no es de Pixar, tiene el mismo estilo de corto animado emotivo, enternecedor, con un mensaje profundo mostrado a través de una historia muy sencilla y simbólica, y con esa mezcla tan particular de alegría, tristeza, lágrimas y sonrisas a partes iguales que nos hacen disfrutarlo y reflexionar sobre cuestiones serias e importantes.

It's very difficult to talk about a short film that is ten minutes long and not give any kind of spoiler because the story is very short and because I cannot mention its central message without commenting on the main fact of the plot. However, I trust that knowing important fragments does not prevent readers from getting closer to this beautiful and brief love story that begins with an astronaut who, after colliding with an asteroid, is stranded on a dwarf planet. Inside the ship, the man travels with a series of encapsulated plants (he must go on some kind of exploratory mission or something like that) and sows one of them on the surface of the tiny planet, but after a short time the plant dies indicating our galactic castaway not only that this planet is uninhabitable for it, but because of that uninhabitability he seems to be lost. But then another spaceship crashes on the same planet and from inside emerges an enchanting, beautiful creature with a different energy that is palpable and visible and makes trees germinate and grow at astonishing speed.

>Es muy difícil hablar sobre un cortometraje que tiene diez minutos de duración y no hacer ningún tipo de spoiler porque la historia es muy corta y porque no puedo mencionar su mensaje central sin comentar el hecho principal de la trama. Sin embargo, confío en que el conocer fragmentos importantes no impida a los lectores acercarse a esta linda y breve historia de amor que inicia con un astronauta que tras colisionar con un asteroide queda varado en un planeta enano. Dentro de la nave, el hombre viaja con una serie de plantas encapsuladas (debe ir en algún tipo de misión exploratoria o algo así) y siembra una de ellas en la superficie del diminuto planeta, pero al poco tiempo la planta muere indicando a nuestro náufrago galáctico no sólo que ese planeta es inhabitable para él sino que a causa de esa inhabitabilidad parece estar perdido. Pero entonces otra nave espacial se estrella en el mismo planeta y de su interior emerge una criatura encantadora, hermosa, con una energía diferente que es palpable y visible y que hace germinar y crecer árboles a una velocidad asombrosa.

This _woman_ (I call her that because she is shown as a female creature) helps the astronaut to plant his sprouts and this time, with her help, they do take root and flourish in the soil of the small planet, generating a fresh, pleasant and beautiful habitat that becomes the home of this couple. A whole life together is shown in a few minutes, but the important thing is that after the appearance of the woman, _life blossoms_, isn't this a beautiful way to represent love? Don't we sometimes feel shipwrecked in an _uninhabitable_ world until we find the perfect person to share it with? It is she who turns that arid space rock into a paradise and it is she, with her energy, with her magic (in this aspect the story also has its touch of fantasy) who causes this transformation in the planet, life and why not ? also in the heart of the astronaut.

>Esta _mujer_ (la llamo así porque es mostrada como una criatura femenina) ayuda al astronauta a plantar sus brotes y esta vez, de la mano de ella, sí se arraigan y florecen en el suelo del pequeño planeta, generando un hábitat fresco, agradable y hermoso que se convierte en el hogar de esta pareja. Toda una vida en común es mostrada en breves minutos, pero lo importante es que tras la aparición de la mujer, _la vida florece_, ¿no es esta una hermosa manera de representar el amor? ¿no nos sentimos a veces náufragos en un mundo _inhabitable_ hasta que conseguimos a la persona perfecta para compartirlo? Es ella quien convierte en un paraíso esa árida roca espacial y es ella, con su energía, con su magia (en este aspecto la historia también tiene su toque de fantasía) quien provoca esta transformación en el planeta, la vida y ¿por qué no? también en el corazón del astronauta.

The reason why this story is so romantic is because the Director was based on an event from his real life. _**Blush**_ is dedicated to the memory of his late wife and mother of his two daughters, Mary Ann R. Mateo, who lost the battle against breast cancer, so we can already guess what happens in the final minutes of the short film. That mix of love and tenderness, laughter and tears, is a characteristic common to most of the animated short films I've seen, especially those from Pixar, as well as the fact that they deal with such serious and profound themes as loneliness, love, sadness, death, through images and symbols easy to understand even for the little ones. Now, although we already know what can happen with the astronaut's wife, there is a scene at the end, after the credits, which is a bit cryptic and subjective, and which can be interpreted in different ways, but in my opinion it is a happy ending because although we do not see what our protagonist sees, his expression seems to anticipate something positive. So when you have ten minutes to watch a cute, beautiful, romantic story, watch _**Blush**_ and then tell me what you thought.

>La razón por la cual esta historia es tan romántica es porque el Director se basó en un hecho de su vida real. _**Blush**_ está dedicado a la memoria de su difunta esposa y madre de sus dos hijas, Mary Ann R. Mateo, quien perdió la batalla contra el cáncer de mama, así que ya podemos intuir lo que ocurre en los minutos finales del cortometraje. Esa mezcla de amor y ternura, risas y lágrimas, es una característica común a la mayoría de los cortometrajes animados que he visto, especialmente los de Pixar, como también el hecho de tratar temas tan serios y profundos como la soledad, el amor y la muerte, a través de imágenes y símbolos fáciles de entender hasta para los más pequeños. Ahora, si bien ya conocemos lo que puede ocurrir con la mujer del astronauta, hay una escena al final, después de los créditos, que resulta un poco críptica y subjetiva, y que se puede interpretar de diferentes formas, pero a mi parecer es un final feliz porque aunque no vemos lo que nuestro protagonista ve, su expresión parece anticipar algo positivo. Así que cuando tengan diez minutos para ver una historia tierna, hermosa y romántica, vean _**Blush**_ y luego me cuentan qué les pareció.
